Chery seems to be on the tip of Malaysians’ consciousness as it has achieved an impressive new record in the country. Within a mere 10 days, the Chinese carmaker witnessed an extraordinary sales performance and surpassed expectations with 3,000 units sold.

Chery made its official return to Malaysia with two models being launched – the Chery Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro on 6-July. Both SUVs are locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant in Kulim, Kedah with an impressive 10-year/1 million km engine warranty.

That warranty is attractive enough and will be offered to the first 3,000 customers of the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro. Perhaps it’s no wonder that Chery Malaysia achieved this unprecedented sales figure in such a short time.

However, regular customers would receive a standard warranty package comprising a 7-year/150,000-km warranty with a 5-year free maintenance package (alternate free labour only, not parts). Still, the extended warranty can be purchased for RM 2,000 so those lucky 3,000 essentially got the 10-year warranty for free.

Chery Malaysia currently has 23 ‘ready to serve’ showrooms around the country and will open 8 more by the end of August. It also has 22 after-sales service centres with spare parts readiness strategically located across Peninsular and East Malaysia.

Chery will invest RM 170 million for its expansion in Malaysia and to also support the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Deliveries for the CKD Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro are expected to begin in August onwards and these are the prices of the SUVs:

• Chery Omoda 5 C – RM 108,800
• Chery Omoda 5 H – RM 118,800
• Chery Tiggo 8 Pro – RM 159,800
