Hyundai has wrapped up its 11-day journey through five Asian countries as part of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour. The tour concluded in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on 30-November 2023, after covering Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia.

The electric vehicle (EV) tour, aimed at dispelling doubts about EV capabilities in the Southeast Asian market showcased the Ioniq 5's reliability and long-distance capabilities across Southeast Asia, totalling 3,197 km, which is 446 km more than initially estimated.

It also highlighted the Hyundai Ioniq 5's cost efficiency. The entire journey cost USD 116 (around RM 540) per car, which is claimed to be two times more cost-efficient than an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 ASEAN Tour involved five cars, with two manufactured in Indonesia and three in Singapore. The tour collaborated with participants from the Association of Singapore (AAS), Hyundai Motor Company, and local community influencers from Indonesia and Thailand.

The journey kicked off in Singapore with a flag-off ceremony and included media convoys in Malaysia, plus Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology demonstrations in Bangkok, Thailand.

Nithi Thuamprathom, an influencer from Hat Yai, Thailand, stated, "Being part of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 ASEAN tour has exceeded all my expectations!" He highlighted the tour's role in dispelling anxiety about EV capabilities, emphasizing the Ioniq 5's style, comfort, and reliability.

As the tour reached Cambodia, Fitra Eri, a renowned automotive expert from Indonesia, shared insights on the potential of electric vehicles in shaping the future of transportation. “As the first proud owner of the Ioniq 5 in Indonesia, my EV journey shattered the anxiety about city limits,” he said.

“This tour not only confirmed that beyond urban boundaries, we experienced zero worries and unmatched convenience during long-distance drives with the Ioniq 5 crossing borders of different countries, but it also erased anxieties about finding charging stations. We arrived at our destinations rejuvenated, waking up to a fully charged vehicle the next morning,” he added.

The Ioniq 5's range, even in challenging stretches with limited charging stations, underscored the tour's slogan, 'Go Far With Zero Worries.' Fitra sees this success as a testament to the potential of EVs in the ASEAN region, predicting a transformative era in electrification.
