Over the weekend, the streamlined Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric vehicle (EV) made its Filipino debut. That said, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the Korean H-badge’s Malaysian distributor has just posted a teaser on the Ioniq 6’s arrival here on social media.
The post only mentioned the aerodynamic coefficient along with a wind tunnel silhouette of the electric sedan. At 0.21 Cd, the Ioniq 6 is one of the world’s most aerodynamic production cars.
The Ioniq 6 is the second all-electric model to bear the Ioniq name after the Ioniq 5 which is available here in 3 variants which are priced between RM 207,808 and RM 270,408.
While the design of the Ioniq 5 is largely inspired by its past, particularly the Giorgetto Giugiaro-penned Hyundai Pony which was Hyundai’s first model built from the ground up, the Ioniq 6’s streamlined shape represented the brand’s future.
The Ioniq 6’s looks were previewed on the aptly named Hyundai Prophecy Concept car from 2020 and its dimensions place the electric streamliner between the Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Grandeur.
In the Philippines, only one variant of the Ioniq 6 is being offered, the GLS 2WD Long Range which is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor (228 PS/350 Nm). The Filipino-spec Ioniq 6 is priced at PHP 3.798 million (~RM 319k).
Other markets offer another Long Range variant that is powered by a pair of electric motors on both axles (AWD) that make 325 PS and 605 Nm. There is also a Standard Range variant that is powered by an electric motor on the rear axle (RWD) which makes 151 PS and 350 Nm.
Both Long Range variants are juiced up by a 77.4 kWh battery while the Standard Range is hooked to a smaller 53 kWh battery. Under the WLTP cycle, the Long Range variant has an estimated range of up to 610 km.
Whether HSDM will be offering only one variant like the Philippines or even all 3 will only be revealed later. The addition of the Ioniq 6 brings Hyundai’s total EV line-up to 3 and aside from the Ioniq 5, HSDM is also offering the Kona Electric which is priced between RM 156,538 to RM 208,348.
