The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the performance-bred version of the popular electric vehicle, has been making headlines for all the good reasons – big numbers, and among other things, a dedicated Drift Mode.

That's what Keiichi Tsuchiya had to showcase amidst sessions of the World Time Attack Championship in Australia recently, as the Drift King brought the 650 PS/740 Nm battery-EV sideways through Sydney Motorsport Park.

Beyond raw, instant power, the Ioniq 5 N is also equipped with the Torque Kick Drift function that allows the back to be kicked out instantly. Key mods also include the hydraulic handbrake, and reworked suspension that's cued by the aggressive camber and fitment.

N Pedal creates an aggressive weight transfer for sharp corner entry, while an integrated Torque Kick Drift function allows for instant drift initiation.

And if you hear some rev limiter banging, it's not some background races going on – the Ioniq 5 N actually has its own simulated engine noise for 'tactile feel'.

The Ioniq 5 N (not the one-off drift version seen here) will be on sale in select markets, mainly in Europe, South Korea, and the United States. Malaysia will carry on with the regular Ioniq 5, which is priced from RM 207,808.00.
