It looks like the Mazda CX-60 isn’t the only model to make its Southeast Asian debut in the Philippines. Hyundai’s all-electric (EV) sedan, the Ioniq 6 has just been launched in the country over the weekend by Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc (HMPH).
The Ioniq 6 was previously shown at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) a couple of months ago to gauge public interest. Eventually, bookings for the second Ioniq model after the Ioniq 5 opened this week and only one variant is offered, the GLS 2WD Long Range which is priced at PHP 3.798 million (~RM 319k).
Built on the same Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) as the Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the Ioniq 6’s streamlined design is a throwback to the early aerodynamic cars of the 1930s like the Tatra 87 and the Stout Scarab.
Its design was first previewed as the Prophecy Concept in 2020 and the production model sits between the Sonata and Grandeur in terms of dimensions.
Powering the sole Filipino-spec Ioniq 6 is a single rear-mounted electric motor that makes 228 PS and 350 Nm which is juiced up by a 77.4 kWh battery. 0-100 km/h takes around 7.5 seconds while it has a rated range of up to 545 km with an efficiency rating of 16 kWh/100 km.
Standard features on the Ioniq 6 in the Philippines include a pair of 12.3-inch screens (one for the driver’s display and the other for the infotainment), a GUI that combines interactive LED lighting themes, an integrated head-up display, and 4 wide-angle cameras.
Active safety features are also offered in the Ioniq 6 which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 which detects risks in front of the driver and automatically assists with either emergency braking or avoidance steering.
The Ioniq 6 was previously teased as one of the quartets of new models to be launched in Malaysia this year. Of the 4, both the Hyundai Creta and the Hyundai Palisade facelift have been launched by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) with the remaining model teased aside from the electric streamliner being the updated Santa Fe.
