According to the latest sales data by Gaikindo, the Honda Brio, the closest rival to the Perodua Axia’s Indo twins, the Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla, has become the best-selling car in Indonesia in January and February 2023.

January saw 7,327 units of the Honda Brio sold in the archipelago while February saw a dip in sales to 5,613 units. Still, the Honda A-segment hatchback which qualifies under the Indonesian Low-Cost Green Car (LCGC) segment maintains its position as Indonesia’s most popular car of the year so far.

Even when combined together, both the Ayla's and Agya's sales in the first two months of 2023 are only half of the number of Brios sold in the same period. With 3,882 units sold in January and 2,172 units sold in February, could the all-new generation of the Axia's Indo twins manage to climb up the charts?

The second and third best-selling cars in the first two months of the year rotate between the Daihatsu Sigra and the Toyota Avanza. In January, the 7-seater Daihatsu took second place with 6,644 units followed by the Avanza with 5,772 units.
A month later, it was the Avanza that went ahead of the Sigra with 5,565 units of the former compared to 5,150 units of the latter.

The Avanza’s more upmarket twin, the Toyota Veloz, meanwhile, languished within the top 20 with 2,555 units sold in January (11th) and 1,502 units sold in February (18th).

Although new vehicle sales in Indonesia have dipped in February 2023 (86,954 units) compared to January (94,123 units), Gaikindo has also reported that sales in the first two months of 2023 saw an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period in 2022.
