Race on Sunday, sell on Monday. Supercars and sportscars aside, even for the more mundane motors on our roads, that saying couldn’t ring truer. Not only does it lend the vehicle and marque an image of performance, it also builds confidence in the said vehicle’s abilities.
With the Honda Jazz being replaced by the City Hatchback regionally, the natural progression would be for Honda to take it racing in every market. PT Honda Prospect Motor from Indonesia takes P1 on the grid with the City Hatchback sporting a Racing Concept 2022 theme at the 2021 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) event.

Based on the City Hatchback RS, the race-prepped machine will replace the Jazz as Honda’s racing car for the 2022 season. Modifications aren’t extensive and appear to be concentrated mostly on the legwork with coilover suspension and lightweight wheels wrapped in the obligatory sticky rubbers. They measure 15-inches in diameter with 195/50 tyres.

No racecar is complete without the decals and a flashy livery. This is no different with the signature red, black and white colors of the Honda Racing Indonesia Team. The livery is inspired by the Honda Civic TCR; a race cars specially designed for the track. As apt as can be.
Powering the City Hatchback on the circuit will be the 1.5-litre DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC engine that makes 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. Seeing that Indonesia gets the City Hatchback RS with a six-speed manual transmission, no prizes will be handed out for the gearbox of choice here.
Honda Indonesia will take it racing in the 1,500 Indonesia Touring Car Race (ITCR) competition that’s part of the Indonesian Sentul Series of Motorsport (ISSOM) racing competition which calls the Sentul International Circuit, Bogor, its home.
As the name of the series suggests, the ITCR is a racing class for mass production cars marketed in Indonesia with an engine capacity of 1,500 cc.
Furthermore the City Hatchback RS will replace the Jazz in the Honda Jazz Speed Challenge for 2022.

What we really need is a shoot-out between this and the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios racecar. That’s something we’re willing to put some money on.
