The Chery Omoda E5 electric vehicle (EV) will make its ASEAN debut in Indonesia, launching in the archipelago sometime in February 2024.

According to the company's latest press statement, the model will adhere to the 40% minimum local content rule (TKDN) off the gates. Local assembly (CKD) for their domestic and certain export markets are in the pipeline as well, according to prior reports.

Specs for the Chery Omoda E5 for Indonesia have been outlined to be quite similar to what's previewed in Malaysia – 204 PS / 340 Nm electric motor paired to a 61.06 kWh battery for a claimed range (per the WLTP) of 430 km.

Creature comforts and safety also see small increments over the regular internal combustion variants, the latter taking form in an updated cabin design with a 24.6-inch dual-screen, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a reworked centre console.

For ADAS, it matches the regular Omoda 5's system, save for the extra feature of a driver monitoring system.

The Chery Omoda E5 will be launched in other ASEAN markets after that, as it has also been previewed in Thailand, and a few times around Malaysia. A Malaysian launch is earmarked to take place in March 2024.
