If you've been eyeing/waiting for the locally-assembled (CKD), seven-seater 2021 Peugeot 5008 facelift to arrive in Malaysia, well, the wait will go on for a bit longer.
In a Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) report that was sighted by WapCar.my, Bermaz Auto (BAuto) was slated to launch the CKD Peugeot 5008 facelift in July 2021, along with the facelifted Peugeot 3008.
Seeing that we're already in the middle of July, it's safe to say that said launch won't be happening. As of now, there's no timeline for the delayed launch.
According to the Maybank IB report, BAuto have earmarked the launches of the facelifted Peugeot 3008, facelifted Peugeot 5008 and all-new Peugeot 2008 to help kickstart the brand's revival on our shores. All 3 models will be locally-assembled in Gurun, Kedah.
The report also added that BAuto was also working towards a target of 1.5k - 1.8k units sales for Financial Year 2022. As of now, nobody is sure if that target still remains with the continued delays of its model launches.
In the pre-facelift Peugeot 5008, propulsion came from a 1.6-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine (167 PS, 240 Nm) paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Expect this powertrain to continue pulling duty in the facelifted model.
When the pre-facelift Peugeot 5008 was launched back in 2018, it retailed for RM 173,888. With the help of local-assembly, we expect prices not to stray too far. We will know more when the car is finally launched.
