The rumours from years ago were true – this is the Mercedes-Benz CLE, an all-new model that replaces the C-and E-Class Coupe. The decision to streamline was seen as a practical cost-saving strategy, considering the declining demand in the segment.
The Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe boasts sleek proportions that have become synonymous with the brand. With its long wheelbase, strongly inclined A-pillar, short front and slightly elongated rear body overhang, pronounced shoulders, and large wheels.
The coupe's front end features a low-slung hood and flat LED headlights. An optional Digital Light system enhances safety by projecting symbols onto the road in challenging situations.
A distinct character line runs from the headlight to the mirror and taillight to the door handle. The rear boasts two-part LED taillights connected by a dark red design element.
It measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,428 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,865 mm.
Compared to the C238 E-Class Coupe, it's 15 mm longer overall, though its wheelbase is 8 mm shorter. The W213 E-Class Sedan facelift, for reference, is 4,935 mm long with a wheelbase stretching at 2,939 mm.
The W206 C-Class Sedan measures 4,751 mm long with an identical wheelbase of 2,865 mm. So in terms of sizing, it's closer to a C-Class than an E-Class.

All engines in the lineup are mild hybrids (MHEVs), equipped with an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 48-volt electrical system. There is a range petrol engine options, with the most powerful engine being a 3.0-litre straight-six engine (M256) - the CLE 450 4Matic - which delivers 381 PS and 500 Nm.
For the 4-cylinder petrol engines (M254), there are different output levels available. The CLE 200 produces 204 PS and 320 Nm, while the CLE 300 4Matic model delivers 258 PS and 400 Nm. All engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Inside the cockpit, it features an almost-identical interior to the W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch portrait-oriented central display. With the optional Ambient Lighting Plus, a light band sweeps from the centre console along the lower edge of the instrument panel to the outer air vents.
The optional Burmester 3D surround sound system with 17 speakers in the Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe includes two speakers at headrest level, providing an immersive music experience with Dolby Atmos.
The CLE Coupe shares the new electronic architecture and Mercedes' third-generation MBUX infotainment system with the W214 E-Class. So users can run apps like TikTok and Angry Birds, or even host a video conference with Zoom.
As for standard safety kit, the Mercedes-Benz CLE comes with Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Speed Limit Assist, and the parking package with a reversing camera. In Western Europe, Active Distance Assist Distronic is also included as standard.
The European market can expect the CLE Coupe to hit showrooms in November, while the CLE Cabriolet will follow suit next year.
