Myvi driver from viral van crash released from custody

On Monday, videos of a horrifying crash between a Perodua Myvi and a van started circulating on social media. There were also plenty of videos showing the Myvi driver sprinting away from the scene before he was caught by witnesses and handed to the police. After the initial investigation, the driver has now been released on police bail.

Selangor Traffic Investigative Unit Chief Superintendent Azman Shari’at told Harian Metro that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have handed over samples of the driver’s blood to a lab for further tests.

While they await test results from the lab, they will be conducting a full physical investigation on the car’s condition, which will also take some time.

The 26-year-old suspect was given police bail after a full interrogation was conducted. The results of the interrogation have been passed to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action.

Meanwhile, PDRM is requesting for more witnesses and owners of dash cam footages from before the crash Jalan Bandar Kinrara 6F, Bandar Kinrara, Serdang to come forth.

In the incident that happened on Monday afternoon, the Myvi could be seen in various videos speeding into the side of a van, narrowly missing a motorcycle, causing the van to flip onto its side.

The momentum of the Myvi also sent the car sliding into Proton Waja before ricocheting back towards the van.

Immediately after the accident, the driver was seen attempting to escape, but his escape was foiled by various witnesses who followed him in their vehicles until he gave up running.

From our last report, the van driver’s identity was still a mystery as he was still receiving critical treatment at the red zone of the Serdang Hospital.
