This is it – Chery has confirmed the specifications of the Chery Omoda 5 EV, a model that’s earmarked for a Malaysian launch between Q4 2023 and Q1 2024.

In China, the Chery Omoda 5 is currently a petrol-only model, which can be had with:

• Turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine: 156 PS, 230 Nm, CVT
• Turbocharged 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine: 197 PS, 290 Nm, 7-speed DCT

The third powertrain option is a fully-electric one. In this emission-free variant of the Omoda 5, power is derived from an electric motor that does 224 PS, juiced by a large 61 kWh battery pack.

Chery added that the upcoming Omoda 5 EV takes just 35 minutes to charge from 0 to 80 percent state-of-charge (SoC), but stopped short on revealing the DC fast charging stats. Chery also mentioned that the 61 kWh battery pack is enough for a 450 km range, though they did not mention the specific test cycle.

These figures are within the ballpark of the preliminary specifications that Chery surveyed Malaysians back in 2022.

Apart from the Chery Omoda 5 EV, part of Chery’s revival plan for Malaysia include the introduction of the petrol-powered Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max – yes, the latter’s name is clearly inspired by the iPhone.
