Indonesia is Hyundai’s Southeast Asian hub as the Korean carmaker invested heavily in a plant that assembles the Hyundai Creta, Ioniq 5 as well as the Indo-focused Hyundai Stargazer 7-seater crossover.
It might even be the first right-hand drive (RHD) market to debut the all-new Hyundai Santa Fe.
A heavily camouflaged unit of the all-new MX generation Santa Fe was recently spotted in Jakarta. According to OtoDriver, the new-gen Santa Fe is probably being used for internal testing but it could be making its way into the archipelago soon.
Making its global unveiling in July 2023, the all-new Santa Fe looks like a Korean Land Rover from a design standpoint. Four powertrain options are offered globally ranging from a turbocharged 2.5-litre unit to a 1.6-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
In ASEAN, the MX-gen Santa Fe made its regional debut in the Phillipines which is a left-hand drive (LHD) market like South Korea. The fifth-gen Santa Fe is still not available in RHD markets with the outgoing TM generation soldiering on instead.
In Malaysia, the fourth-gen Santa Fe underwent a facelift and was previewed last year. Three variants will be offered including two 1.6-litre hybrid variants and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel trim.
Locally assembled (CKD) at the Inokom plant, prices for the Korean SUV have yet to be announced though it is currently exported to Thailand with the sole hybrid variant priced at THB 1,849,000 (~RM 246k).
