A heavily camouflaged Ford Ranger Raptor has been spotted in Thailand amidst testing. Despite the camouflage, telltale signs of a Ford Ranger Raptor are the wheels with all-season tyres, flared wheel arches, and other bits like the front scuff plates as well as side step.
Last year, the 2021 Ford Ranger facelift was unveiled in Thailand alongside the Everest facelift. However, there was no Ranger Raptor facelift announced in the unveiling, which leads us to believe that this spyshot could be the facelift in question.
Changes in the facelift are minor, notable ones are the new trapezoidal grille and a power roller shutter that covers the pick-up’s bed. The Ranger Raptor facelift (should this be it) is expected to carry similar changes.
The 2.0-litre bi-turbo engine that makes 213 PS/500 Nm is expected to soldier on in the facelift. The mill is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
On another note, the Ranger Raptor seen here could be a test mule for the next-gen, all-new Ford Ranger. The current generation Ford Ranger has been around since 2011 and is reaching the last legs of its model life. So, it is not far-fetched to expect an all-new model.
Road testing for the next-gen Ford Ranger should have commenced by now. Also, Ford did announce that production of the all-new Ranger is slated to begin in their South Africa plant in 2022.
Back in Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC) has yet to introduce the latest iteration of the Ford Ranger facelift. We expect the 2021 Ford Ranger facelift to arrive sometime later this year.
The quest for automotive knowledge began as soon as the earliest memories. Various sources information, even questionable ones, have been explored including video games, television, magazines, or even internet forums. Still stuck in that rabbit hole.
