The Korean bombshell this week is the full design reveal of the all-new 2022 Kia Sportage.

Now entering its fifth generation, the Sportage receives an inside-out revamp using the automaker's 'Opposites United' design language, which you'll recall was first seen on the Kia EV6.

Exterior - Fancy new looks

Much like the battery-electric (BEV) crossover, the Sportage wears a rather shouty front fascia dominated by its full-width Tiger Nose grille, flanked by triangular LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and diamond-shaped headlights.

Accentuating the upswept greenhouse is the chrome or black beltline, which lends a floating roof effect. Much like the Kia Carnival, the D-pillar on the Sportage is also textured.

Further highlighting the SUV's profile is the optional black roof (a first for the model), and new wheel designs.

The back is pretty much a taller version of the EV6, albeit with chunkier lower rear bumper detailing. The fantastic tail lights are linked by a strip on the tailgate.

Interior - Large screen, more options

Inside, the all-new Sportage gets an equally-contemporary cabin, with the main attraction being the large curved display that links both the instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system.

The rotary gear selector which sits on the high-gloss centre console amidst cupholders and soft-touch switches.

Kia says they'll offer 'dynamic and vibrant' interior colour options too, as well as 'additional energising finishing techniques' that will also include chrome and tampo-printed designs.

Specs, variants, market launch

The all-new Kia Sportage is due for a global market launch later this year. However, no specification information has been divulged so far.

Meanwhile, Kia says that there's a new variant joining the line-up as well, called the Sportage X-Line. This should be a more off-roady type then, as the company says this will have a 'unique bumper, side sill, and curved roof rack'.
