In number, Proton sold 22K units within two years and are reaching the production quota. Not the best, but a rather decent performance taking account of it's resulted from a special production agreement.
Wherefore then brings the cessation of Ertiga?
First thing first, Proton is cooperating with Geely and has the most popular SUV born out. Therefore, it’s improper to have two collaborators to compete with each other under the same brand, especially when one of the products has acted so ferocious in the domestic market. This is predictable and has heralded by the dropping out of Proton Preve earlier.
For another, the production quota allocated has hit, which means it’s time for the old generation to have a facelift. It’s apparent that this is not the best time for Suzuki to refresh the model, neither is it reasonable to increase the production quota. Therefore, Proton Ertiga is now being pulled to a halt.
Saying goodbye to the last pieces on the Proton&Suzuki cooperation list, it’s intriguing to see whether Suzuki will be back to Malaysia under its own name.
