- Second generation of the AMG GT
- Keeps the 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine, adds 4Matic all-wheel drive
- Increased practicality with more space and optional 2+2 seats
This is the all-new second-generation 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe. In a nutshell, it keeps the well-loved V8 with its low slung, long nose, short overhangs proportions while enhancing everyday practicality, responding to customer feedback for a smoother and more comfortable driving experience.
This redesign is comprehensive, as Mercedes chose to rework every facet of the vehicle. With the optional 2+2 seating configuration, the all-new AMG GT Coupe embraces a slightly different exterior proportion than before, with a more steeply raked windscreen.
The new coupe measures 4,728mm in length, 1,984mm in width, and 1,354mm in height. This represents an increase of 182mm in length, 45mm in width, and 66mm in height compared toits predecessor. Meanwhile, the wheelbase has been extended by 70 mm to reach a total of 2,700 mm.
The side profile features smooth surfaces and recessed door handles, while the rear displays sporty appeal with an integrated spoiler. The front stands out with a large AMG grille and headlights with Digital Light.
The AMG GT's body combines aluminium with steel, magnesium, and carbon fibre composite, resulting in a blend of structural rigidity and lightweight construction.
The core of the AMG GT Coupe remains its revered 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, hand built in the AMG headquarters in Affalterbach, mated to a 9-speed multi-plate clutch transmission. The transmission now mounted directly to the V8 instead of the transaxle unit seated at the rear previously.
Changes to the engine include a repositioned intercooler, an advanced active crankcase ventilation system, and optimized inlet and outlet ports for heightened gas exchange efficiency.
The GT 63 version outputs 585 PS and 800 Nm, allowing a 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Simultaneously, the GT 55 boasts 476 PS and 700 Nm with a century sprint time of 3.9 seconds.
The 4Matic all-wheel-drive system comes as standard, which provides adaptable distribution tailored to various road conditions. This system permits a balanced 50:50 distribution for enhanced traction on slippery surfaces, while also granting full rear-wheel drive for spirited track driving.
Multi-link suspension systems are deployed at both the front and rear, accompanied by an electric rear axle locking differential, carbon composite brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tyres.
Actively adjustable features are integrated into the vehicle's design. The rear spoiler adapts to varying conditions, while adaptive ride control and roll stabilization contribute to a smooth ride. The two-part active air control system named AirPanel adjusts slats for optimized cooling and reduced lift.
An underbody carbon profile contributes to handling improvement by lowering and creating a Venturi effect, enhancing road grip and directional stability. The rear-wheel steering goes up to 2.5 degrees of lock, counteracts steering inputs below 100 km/h and mimics them above, also enhancing stability and manoeuvrability.
An 11.9-inch portrait touchscreen takes centre stage in the interior, running on MBUX with live traffic information and CarβtoβX communication. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity is integrated. Sports seats come as standard, while the AMG Performance seats are optional. Thereβs also an option for panoramic roof.
In contrast to its predecessor, the all-new AMG GT will not feature a Roadster variant; this role is being fulfilled by the SL. Mercedes says deliveries for the all-new AMG GT will commence in the first half of 2024 for international markets.
