This is the all-new 2023 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé (C192), the top model to wear the Mercedes-AMG insignia. The brand says what it does best is 'blending dynamic driving with daily usability', and as such it builds upon what made its predecessor a standout.

Rather importantly, it keeps its stonking 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine under its long hood, in all its 'One Man, One Engine' glory. Hand built in the temple of AMG in Affalterbach, Germany, the mill churns 585 PS and 800 Nm in the GT 63, while the GT 55 'makes do' (it's not a problem we'll complain about to be honest) with 476 PS and 700 Nm.

A bevy of modifications is buried within: a new oil pan, repositioned intercooler, active crankcase ventilation, and reoptimised ducting for the intake and exhaust were also part of the equation. The GT 63 gets its sizeable power bump through higher boost pressure, greater airflow, and modified engine software.
If it all sounds Greek, just know it speaks one other language – fast. Paired to a 9-speed multi-plate clutch transmission (paired directly to the V8 this time around, in the earlier gen it was on the rear transaxle), it sets rowdy 0-100 km/h times: 3.2 seconds in the GT 63, and 3.9 seconds in the GT 55, thanks to a lighter and sharper wet starting clutch that replaces the old 'box's torque converter.

Clawing it to the road is the 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD) standard drivetrain which allows for tailored performance depending on conditions. 50:50 power distribution for better traction on slippery roads, or 100% rear-wheel drive (RWD) for spirited track bashing; it's all just finger presses away.

AMG Active Ride Control active suspension is par for the course, working together with an electronic limited slip differential (LSD), and rear-wheel steering. The rest of the components – all arms, steering knuckles, linkages – are crafted from lightweight forged aluminium.

all of these are wrapped in a body that's just as active as the parts under the hood. Long in front and short at the rump, it comes with a smoothened side profile (recessed door handles) to improve aero, and helped along with an active rear spoiler, and AirPanel adjustable slats for optimised cooling and reduced lift.

It's grown quite a bit (4,728 mm long, 1,984 mm wide, 1,354 mm tall; 182 mm longer, 45 mm wider, 66 mm taller than its predecessor), and has a longer wheelbase to boot: 2,700 mm, in itself extended by 70 mm. This also allows for an optional 2+2 seating configuration inside.

And as usual with cars like these, options are how you make it your own: on the outside there five design packages, 11 colours, 2 wheel choices; while the cabin can be truly yours with different kit such as an available head-up display, as well as varied seat and upholstery choices.
In essence there's plenty that's new yet traditional about the new AMG GT Coupé. Deliveries for the global market will commence in the first half of 2024, and it wouldn't be inaccurate to put Malaysia as among the eventual recepients to the model, as we got the full range of its predecessor before this.
