Dance Clubs Atlanta is all about the party and the dancing. Come to the clubs, support them and get to know the DJ’s. Clubs like ,Compound,, ,Opera,, ,Mansion Elan, and the ,Gold Room, set high standards in Atlanta for hip hop. Owner of ,Compound,, ,Gold Room, and ,Soho,, ,Alex Gidewon,, is a shrewd businessman and brings in top names to his clubs. If you are on ,Billboard’s Hot 100, and are hip hop, chances are you’ve performed at one of his clubs and probably frequent the luxurious VIP when in town. ,Opera, is in the Nightclubs & Bars’ USA Top 50 and it is packed most nights of the week. One of those rappers was ,Tay Don, which led him to collaborate with the ,Brick Squad, label. The rest is musical history. ,Southside, is another producer in Atlanta worth noting. He is known for his distinct trap sound that is gritty and thunderous. He began working with then unknown ,Waka Flocka Flame, and his debut album along with ,Lex Leger,, another producer. Eventually, he was signed by ,Gucci Mane’s, label, ,1017 Brick Squad,. He also has a song or two in the top 20 on ,Billboard’s Hot 100, chart consistently. ,Zaytoven, is another super star producer in the Atlanta area. He won a ,Grammy, for his contribution to ,Usher’s, ,Raymond v. Raymond, album. He is also on the 1017 Brick squad label producing multiple songs for Gucci Mane, Migos, Future, Waka Flocka Flame, 2 Chainz, Travis Scott, etc. He has promotional opportunities for artists with a budget. These producers and others are the ones driving the trap sound coming out of Atlanta currently. According to ,Ferrari Simmons, of ,Streetz 94.5,, “Trap heavy 808 vibe isn’t going anywhere. Most of them “live” hip hop and can be found at all hours of the night in the studios around Atlanta. There is a strong work ethic here but it’s more than that. Future himself received 2012 Best New Artist and 2014 Best Male Hip Hop Artist from the ,BET Awards,. Quality Control, is making a big impact on rap culture. ,Lil Yachty,, ,Migos,, ,OG Maco,, ,Young Greatness,, ,Skippa Da Flippa,, ,Jose Guapo,, ,Rich the Kid, and more are on their roster. ,Coach K,, legendary manager and now business owner, leads the way and lends undeniable industry knowledge to the label. How can I be a DJ for beginners and up to advanced?
This is all about music. PASSION. Know what you love, and love what you know Youtube, Discogs, Beatport, Mixcloud, Soundcloud - Respect the classics. Someone made something you like ? What label is it on ? What other labels do they release on ? Who else is on that label ? Get educated. Equipment is expensive. The better the equipment the better you will sound. Technology is what limits your development of skills as an artist. It’s a bitch to learn, but you will appreciate this knowledge and at sometime you will need to lean on it. But don’t force yourself to beat mix to a crowd if you don’t want to. When playing to a crowd its important to ; make people dance mix things up (it’s called “mixing” for a reason), don’t stick to the same style unless its a dedicated night play to the mood. If you are warming up for someone, don’t play peak time tunes. The next DJ will really appreciate this when you do your job right ! Never ,ever ,fake it ! If you want to promote yourself, keep your social media presence clean. This is your storefront. record everything that you do. Listen to your mixes all of the time. refine your style, learn from your peers, continually push your technical boundaries. Experiment. Get into everything. always have CDs to give out to everyone with your contact details clearly printed on them. One friend of yours may have your CD on at a party with some guy who knows a guy that is looking to put some night on somewhere. This shit happens. put your mixes on Mixcloud and Soundcloud for free. Promote yourself on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. encourage and promote feedback. go to all the local bars and clubs and meet the manager. Go in every two months and give them a new CD with your contact details clearly written on the CD. Tailor these mixes to sound similar to their regular nights. At some point they will be let down by a DJ, and will likely fish out your CD and give you a slot if you have been pleasant and enthusiastic when you met them. offer to do the first night free. But the best shortcut to the bigs ? *drumroll…. CREATE SOME MUSIC !
