To celebrate Scuderia Ferrari’s 1,000th Formula One championship race, Mick Schumacher has been given the honours to pilot Michael Schumacher’s 2004 Ferrari at the Mugello circuit on Sunday!

This is not the first time that Mick Schumacher has had the chance to drive the F2004, he was previously given the chance to take the car for a spin ahead of the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim last year.

The F2004 is a particularly important car for the team as it was the car that took Michael Schumacher to his seventh and final championship victory back in 2004.

Mick Schumacher is currently a member of the Ferrari driver academy and competing in the Formula 2 series. He recently won his first race of the Formula 2 season at the Monza GP last weekend.

Looks like the Prancing Horses will be making this weekend’s celebration a huge occasion to mark the team as the most successful in the sport as well as the only one to have competed in every season since the first race in 1950.

Ferrari has even revealed a new retro burgundy livery inspired by the first racing car that used the Ferrari name, the 125S.

The scarlet celebrations this weekend is shaping up to be rather exciting, while it might have been overshadowed by the news of Sebastian Vettel’s move to Aston Martin next year, it would be interesting to see what else Ferrari has installed ahead of the race.

There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
