An income of MYR 79,000/- in a year, for a couple (assuming the two persons are a married couple) ,is approximately USD 1,645/- per month to spend for,. Accommodation,: a 3BR apartment from a pretty good condominium would be available for USD 400/- per month. Electricity,: I’d say on average, the electricity bill could be as high as USD 150/- per month. Water,: during the last 10 years of my life in KL, I spent around USD 3/- per month for my family of 4–5 persons (my wife, daughter, son and an infant who is also my daughter and myself). Sewerage/Internet/Cable TV,: all the three services are being provided for a fixed amount of about USD 50/- per month. Note that the internet connection is at the speed of 100mbps for unlimited download throughout the month, which I pay approximately USD 25/- per month. Smart Phone Bill,: You’d be able to get a postpaid connection with a good unlimited package for talk time and around 50gb’s per month (which would be very much enough while you’d get WiFi at home) for around USD 35/- per month for two persons. Transport/Traveling,: I would suggest to buy a car if you seriously plan to live in KL. A second hand car (used but very well maintained which would be like a new car) of a foreign brand like Toyota Avanza would be able to get to buy for around USD 6,000/- cash on the road. So the monthly cost of it could be around USD 175/- per month, which includes gas, monthly servicing, city toll charges, annual road tax and cleaning (once a week). Note that it shouldn’t be more than 1,000km per month if you maintain the mentioned budget. Another USD 100/- per month could be added for every additional 1,000km’s. Food,: Home cooked food would be much cheaper than other options (street food, restaurants, food delivery options like Grab Food, etc). But we all know that it’s normal for any family to eat food outside of home occasionally like a couple of times in a week. I’d say you’d have to spend around USD 400/- per month for 2 persons food of an entire month. I think it’d be better if I detail the types of meals or food items, when I said food for 2 persons. Let’s say it’d be like you’d have to maintain a stock of food at home as follows; milk, tea bags, cheese slices, cereals, honey, sausages, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard sauce, sandwich breads, crackers, flour, rice, sugar, spices, salt, vegetables, fruits, frozen meat, juice/cordials, etc. Note that like buying a vehicle, you’d need to buy kitchenware, plates, utensils, cups, etc. Misc,: maintain a budget of at least around USD 50/- per month for miscellaneous expenses; like to pay a couple of times on a month for a maid to clean the home, to buy equipments for cleaning and maintenance etc. Others,: Note that the budget I have explained would certainly be enough for 2 persons to spend in KL if you wisely maintain your expenditures. Also, there would be one time expenses which could be a pretty much big figure to spend for your settlement at the initial stage of your move. It’s like; paying the advanced rental, utilities etc, one time payment for the vehicle, a budget of around 2 to 3 thousand USD to buy enough furniture for living, etc. the accommodation expenses which I mentioned of USD 400/- per month is a good apartment at a modern condominium where you wouldn’t have to buy electrical appliances, air conditioners, etc (you’d be able to get a home with all air conditioners, a refrigerator, a gas stove or an induction stove, microwave oven, washing machine with a dryer, all the curtains, built on wardrobes for all the bedrooms, etc. Basically you s have to spend to buy beds, mattresses, sofa and dining table with chairs. So let’s calculate,: USD 1,260/- per month is the budget which I’d suggest for 2 persons to live in KL comfortably. That is approximately MYR 61,000/- per year. Thank you 🙏🏽
