However, the company has discontinued the Standard Range (SR) RWD Model Y, substituting it with the Long Range version at a USD 2,000 increase in price. In a bid to accelerate its electrification efforts and catch up with rivals, Mazda is set to launch its first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) model in 2027, according to CEO Masahiro Moro. Although many may recall the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the Mazda MX-30, it’s also available as a hybrid, leaving the Hiroshima-based carmaker without an EV-only model. Following the launch of the dedicated EV model, Mazda will be looking to boost production of EV-only models from 2028 onwards.
