After more than 30 years, the Honda City has come full circle and is available again with a hatchback body style. The sedan version remains and the hatchback is now simply known as the Honda City Hatchback.
With its launch in Thailand, hopefully the Honda City Hatchback will reach Malaysia soon.
Launched in Thailand today, the Honda City Hatchback will be replacing the current Honda Jazz in Malaysia.
The next generation Honda Jazz is adorable, but it doesn't look like we'll be getting it.
Powered by a 1.0-litre DOHC VTEC turbo engine, the new Honda City Hatchback is capable of 122 PS maximum power and 173 Nm maximum torque. The tiny turbo engine is paired to a CVT gearbox.
For Malaysia, do expect to get the 1.5-litre NA version.
On the outside, the Honda City Hatchback is adorned with LED DRLs, a shark fin antenna, and new alloy wheels (15-inch for SV and V; 16-inch for RS).
Like the current Honda Jazz in Malaysia, the Honda City hatchback is equipped with the ULTRA seat configuration, although the "A" seems to be missing from the name.
It seems the Honda City Hatchback does not sacrifice the practicality of the Honda Jazz.
In Thailand, the Honda City Hatchback is available in three variants:
- RS (from THB 749K)
- SV (from THB 675K)
- S+ (from THB 599K)
The RS version is distinguishable by the 16-inch alloy wheels and the RS emblem. To give a sportier feel on the inside, the RS gets red stripes on the suede seats.
Luxuries inside the cabin include an 8-inch infotainment unit with Apple Carplay and a multi-function steering wheel.
The RS variant gets paddle shifters.
In terms of safety, the Honda City Hatchback is equipped qith 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, VSA, HAS, and ESS.
As for Malaysia, we might be getting the Honda City Hatchback with 1.5-litre NA engine. The hybrid powertrain is yet to be confirmed. Will it be soon? Let's see.
