BMW has pulled the covers off the (U11) 2023 BMW iX1 eDrive20, introducing the second variant of the iX1 model and the new entry point of the company's EV range. 

Billed as the new entry point of the BMW EV range, the iX1 eDrive20 features and single electric motor with a maximum output of 204 PS and 247 Nm. The more powerful iX1 eDrive30, which was recently launched here, offers 313 PS and 494 Nm.

Power is supplied by an identical 64.7 kWh lithium-ion battery which is claimed to offer a driving range of between 430 km to 475 km, slightly higher than the iX1 eDrive30’s 440 km range, according to WLTP standards.

The iX1 eDrive20 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds, top speed is electronically limited to 170 km/h.

The iX1 eDrive20 offers 11 kW AC charging as standard, with an optional 22 kW system, and DC fast charging of up to 130 kW. The iX1 can recharge from 10 to 80 percent within 29 minutes at a fast charging station.

The iX1 also features intelligent charging software that controls energy input. Anticipatory thermal management ensures the battery's optimal temperature, while an active navigation system pre-conditions the battery before planned charging stops, enhancing overall efficiency.

Elsewhere the iX1 eDrive20 also features as standard, two-zone automatic air conditioning, Parking Assistant with a Reversing Assist Camera as well as the new BMW iDrive with "QuickSelect”.

The iX1 eDrive20. however, features a smaller 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display twin-screen setup (versus the eDrive30’s 12.3-inch and 14.9-inch screens). The system is augmented by the latest BMW Operating System 9.

The new BMW iX1 eDrive20 will start production in November 2023, with sales to start soon after with an indicative price of EUR 47,900 (~RM 240,760).

For comparison, the BMW iX1 eDrive30 is currently priced at RM 285,800 in Malaysia inclusive of the 8-year/160,000 km warranty offered on BMW Malaysia EV models.
