This is the first-ever BMW iX2, an all-electric version of the second-generation (U10) BMW X2.

Built on the same platform as the regular X2 (codenamed "U10"), the iX2 boasts superior aerodynamics. BMW engineers have achieved a lower drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd for the iX2 compared to the X2's 0.27 Cd.

This enhanced aerodynamic performance is the result of exterior tweaks such as a closed-off kidney grille and a fully sealed underbody. The battery pack, situated under the floor contributes to the iX2's improved slipperiness. A rear diffuser has been incorporated to optimize airflow and extend the vehicle's range.

In terms of dimensions, the iX2 measures 4,554 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,692 mm and weighs 2,020 kg.

The iX2 comes standard with 17-inch wheels featuring an aerodynamically optimised design. The M Sport package is available, enhancing the exterior with aerodynamic details.

An even more advanced M Sport package Pro is also on the options list, which includes extended M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, M lights Shadowline, an M rear spoiler, and an M Sport braking system with red-painted callipers, and others.

Performance-wise, the iX2 xDrive30 gets a dual-motor setup for all-wheel drive capability and delivers a combined output of 313 PS and 494 Nm, accelerating the iX2 from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

Equipped with a 64.8 kWh battery (usable), the iX2 xDrive30 has a range of 417 to 449 km in the WLTP cycle. This efficiency is partly achieved through the integration of a heat pump in the automatic climate control system, which can precondition the interior before driving.

Charging the battery is facilitated with standard 11 kW AC charging with the optional 22 kW charging. DC charging is rated at 130 kW.

BMW plans to introduce the eDrive20 variant at a later date, equipped with a single front-mounted motor. The future eDrive20 variant is likely to produce 204 PS and 247 Nm, aligning with the iX1 eDrive20.

Turning to the interior, the cabin of the iX2 closely mirrors that of the iX1 with the 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.7-inch infotainment display but incorporates updates such as iDrive 9.

This updated infotainment system includes QuickSelect functionality for easier access to frequently used functions, more frequent over-the-air updates, and greater support for third-party apps.

As for cargo capacity the iX2 offers 525 litres with the rear seats in place and 1,400 litres when the rear seats are folded. In comparison, the regular X2 provides 560 to 1,470 litres.

BMW is planning to unveil the iX2 to the public later this month at the Japan Mobility Show, with an international launch scheduled for March 2024. The vehicle will be assembled in Germany at the Regensburg factory, which also produces the iX1.
