Often times when manufacturers showcase a new vehicle, they will use a range-topping variant, as it includes all the bells and whistles.

Curiously, Toyota did the polar opposite with the Yaris Cross, as they showcased a base variant of the model ahead of its official by parking one unit in front of the Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) plant in Onnaing, France.

Compared to the decked-out top spec variant, the base model loses out of several features, like the large 18-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out A and B-pillars, and black roof.

Instead, the base model gets steel wheels with plastic covers, body-coloured A- and B-pillars, and roof.

That said, the base model seen here still gets turn signals on the side mirrors, a shark fin antenna, and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Sharp-eyed readers may have noticed that the Yaris Cross pictured here is a right-hand drive unit, but that comes as no surprise, as the TMMF plant is responsible for right-hand drive Yaris models exported to the United Kingdom, in addition to the left-hand drive models for the rest of Europe.
