Mitsubishi Motors has debuted its newest SUV that’s to be the successor to the ASX, creatively named the Mitsubishi New SUV in lieu of the name being revealed later during the official launch slated for 10 August 2023.
The new SUV made its global debut today in Indonesia and will be the marque’s centrepiece during the upcoming GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) to be held in August 2023.
Details are scarce until the launch but the exterior carries distinct Mitsubishi design cues and has undergone testing several times on Asean roads and environments to provide peace of mind when driving on various road terrains, both rough and waterlogged, due to the local climate.
Although photos of the interior weren’t revealed during the debut, the new SUV will be the first vehicle to be equipped with Yamaha Premium Dynamic Sound, an automotive audio system developed for the first time by Mitsubishi Motors in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation.
At the front, the Dynamic Shield face has been evolved in line with the design concept. The LED DRLs come together in a L-shape with slitted accents to emit light in an iconic T-shape, making the SUV instantly recognisable as a Mitsubishi model.
It has a top-class ground clearance of 222 mm, and those fender flares do their best to hide the 18-inch wheels.

Under the hood, Mitsubishi has confirmed it’ll be powered by a 1.5-litre engine mated to a CVT driving the front wheel, which could be the same powertrain found in the Indonesian-market Mitsubishi Xpander. Over here, the Xpander uses a 4-speed automatic.
From a size perspective, the new SUV would be on par with the new Honda HR-V and its predecessor, the ASX, rather than the all-new Honda WR-V.

Mitsubishi Motors also announced that orders for the new SUV are open since 31 May 2023, “We have started the pre-order stage for The New SUV which will be launched in Indonesia on August 2023 at the GIIAS 2023 event. Consumers can start pre-ordering by contacting sales staff and official Mitsubishi Motors dealers. In addition, consumers who pre-order from the period specified today are entitled to an additional 20,000 km or 1 year service and spare parts free period, whichever is reached first outside the standard package that is included in the purchase of the vehicle,” said Tetsuhiro Tsuchida, Director of Sales & Marketing Division for Mitsubishi Indonesia.
The new model will be built at Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (Bekasi, West Java) and those that pre-ordered it should receive their cars in November 2023.
