Whether it could be called the ASX or be given an entirely new name, Mitsubishi Motors will be debuting its upcoming B-segment SUV at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in August 2023.
The Three Diamondsā answer to the likes of the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, and Toyota Yaris Cross has been previewed in the form of the Mitsubishi XFC Concept which made its unveiling at the 2022 Vietnam Motor Show. However, it seems likely that the production version of the upcoming SUV will bear a lot of resemblance to the concept.
According to our colleagues over at AutoFun ID, this is speculated based on past Mitsubishi concepts that were unveiled in the region. Most notably, the XM Concept which was revealed at the 2016 GIIAS would eventually take the form of the Xpander.
The 7-seater crossoverās design was largely carried over almost unchanged from the XM Concept. This is also seen on the Engelberg Tourer Concept which would take shape into the current fourth-generation Mitsubishi Outlander.
Aside from offering an interesting vision of a car, concepts are also used to gauge the publicās reaction in terms of design which could be carried over into the production model. The XFC Concept has been on tour around Indonesia and the new SUVās production base would be in the archipelago despite spyshots of it surfacing from Vietnam.
But public perception of the XFC Conceptās design seems positive. AutoFun ID interviewed a couple of visitors who checked out the SUV at roadshows and both agree that the SUV looks cool and macho.
As for the similarities between the designs, Tetsuro Tsuchida, Director of Sales and Marketing at PT Mitsubishi Motors Kraya Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) told AutoFun ID that the production versions would be at least 80% similar to the XFC Concept.
āThe new Mitsubishi SUV is a compact SUV but would be slightly larger than others in its class. Because of the wider size, it would be more comfortable and the dashboard is more futuristic. Those are what will be offered in terms of exterior, interior as well as in terms of functions and features," he told our Indonesian colleagues.
Indonesians in general are looking forward to the features that could be offered with the new Mitsubishi SUV. One of the visitors interviewed by AutoFun ID at the roadshow hopes that the new SUV will be equipped with a panoramic sunroof while another is considering getting one as he trusts Mitsubishiās quality in its line-up.
Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia has posted a teaser announcing that bookings for the new SUV have been opened on its social media. The production version of the XFC Concept will be unveiled at GIIAS 2023 which will be held in August.
