Thailand is clearly leading the way in terms of electric vehicle (EV) sales in Southeast Asia as 43,472 units were sold in the first 8 months of 2023, accounting for 9.58% of total vehicle sales in the Kingdom so far (453,748 units).
In fact, the number of EVs sold so far this year in the Kingdom far exceeded that of the previous 3 years combined (12,270 units)! Still, EV sales have been progressively increasing in the Kingdom as the government offers incentives and corporations continue to build more infrastructure like charging stations around the country.

Leading the way in August 2023 is the BYD Atto 3 with 1,770 units sold in Thailand that month. Sales data showed that 14,314 units of the electric crossover have been sold in the country in the year so far, accounting for nearly 33% market share. It’s also worth noting that the cumulative figures of the Atto 3 in 2023 alone exceeded the combined number of EVs sold in the past 3 years.

The Atto 3 has been leading the EV sales chart in the Kingdom for every month of the year so far except for June when it seceded the title to the Neta V. The Neta V placed second in August with 1,251 units sold while cumulatively, 8,440 units were sold in the Kingdom so far.
Taking the final runner-up position in August and the year so far is the Tesla Model Y with 664 units and 4,503 units respectively.
In fourth place in August is the Ora Good Cat which saw 598 units of the electric feline being sold in the Kingdom. It’s also the fourth best-selling EV in Thailand with 3,712 units sold in 2023 so far.
The BYD Dolphin which was just launched in Thailand made its debut on the sales chart in August at 5th place with 481 units sold.

In terms of brands, BYD led in August with 2,266 units followed by Neta with 1,251 units and MG with 1,149 units. Sales of EVs in Thailand in August rose to 6,611 units from 5,116 units in July.
