I'll come directly to the point space wise, Hector, has much more roomier cabin, space for everything and for your luggage. also the seats are reclinable. Features:, there is a tough competition between both of them. Both cars are equipped with loads of features and has its own segment first features. just for reference, Seltos has heads up display whereas, hector comes with more than 30 voice command control system and first internet car in our market! (Please refer brochure for all features of both car) Dealership network: ,Kia has more dealership network across India and easily accessible. Design wise, ,I loved seltos because it is much more well proportioned and looks perfect in every part. On the other hand hector also looks great from front but when we look at it from side angle, those tyres looks small to it’s body and from rear, this car looks tall but not proportional to it's width. However looks are always subjective! Reliability: Kia ,has much reliable products in the global market and afterall it's a subsidiary of Hyundai right!? So you can expect it to be better if not best! Pricing: ,both companies wanted to enter into Indian market. So getting customers for their cars for the first time was a big task… hence both companies played very well with pricing, keeping it as much as aggressive as it could be… hence, it is almost neck to neck, according to their segment wise. but hector costs a bit higher but it is worthy… because u get a bigger space, bigger car If I had to choose one, then my pick would be seltos.
I have answered a question or two that are of this sort. But, so far, I haven’t described the complete experience of purchasing a new car right from start. Thanks for asking this question and let us jump into the topic without wasting much time. Note : This post might seem big but I’ll try my level best to make it as optimal as possible. Here, we represents me and my family. So, don’t get confused there. We were having a Hyundai Grand I10 at that time and it was running well. After 4 years from the date of its purchase, we decided to purchase a new one and the car reached only 55k kms and it was one sweet hatch we loved to revv and the nature of it is also kind of go easy type but we wanted a new one for some reasons. 1. The Car wasn’t having airbags. (We bought it at its very first launch and its a base model yet it had so many good features too that are appreciable.) 2. We wanted something that’s big like an SUV but it shouldn’t exceed our expectations in terms of pricing. 3. The car had two major break downs once due to floods that caused in our area and another one is due to a late service but it sustained them all and even at the time of selling, it was running like a champ. The choices we had at that time were either a mid-spec Kia Seltos or Hyundai Creta(2nd gen) and all the BS4 sub 4-metre SUVs and I personally decided to get my hands on with whichever the vehicle possible when we visit any of the showrooms. So, we started with Hyundai itself as we already had one that we loved for a span of 4 years. And we visited the Hyundai showroom. To my excitement, there were three cars i.e, Creta, Verna (Both were 2nd gen) and that’s when Hyundai has just launched the Venue and also Kia has entered the market with its explosive offering ,Seltos. We’ve tested bigger ones like Venue, Verna but not Creta and among them, we loved the Verna so much but its costly. We were in dilema on whether to choose Venue or not. I know it seems a bit hurried but trust me, we loved Verna so much but its a big stretch and our budget was at around some 11 - 12.5 Lakhs on road itself. It seemed like a compromise on power, space and also in some features at that time. Now, we have decided to visit Ford and check out their vehicle as well and to our surpise, the Ford guys were so receiving and they’ve inquired what and all were our expectations and what body type are we choosing to purchase and many more. ,(Even Hyundai executives also received us well , its the Ford people who made an impression upon us that made all the difference.) We have experienced the EcoSport and it looked stunning and despite its crossover looks the alloys, interiors and the instrumentation, SUV stance and all made us all fall in love with it and the executive said that the prices are going to be hiked which it really happened after a span of some 2 - 3 months and also were revised once the company planned to launch a new BS6 variant in the line-up which we missed but even then, we don’t have any major regret or grudge of not buying it either. We’ve paid an advance of 15k there itself and booked the EcoSport Titanium S in grey shade and left for home. It costed us nearly 13.5 Lakhs on road and we took the delivery by a month or so. Now, let us come to the question on what and all factors we’ve considered in it. 1. Style and safety. 2. Space(I know there are better choices out there at that time and I’ll speak about this at the end.) 3. Ride( we have driven a 16′inch tyred Titanium model that ran smoothly and even I’ll include this at the end.) 4. Features (I sincerely have no grudges whatsover like the style, fun roof, infotainment, TPMS, ambient lighting, proper spare alloy, cruise control and all made us feel satisfied.) 5. Maintenance (In this aspect, we have thoroughly checked the brochure of EcoSport both physically and on its website as well) and they seemed decent. 6. Mileage (We thought that as the claimed mileage is 21kmpl at that time, it will give us atleast 18kmpl with ac on but its somewhere around 16 - 17kmpl which din’t affect our feelings.) These were the 6 parameters we’ve checked but after that I personally have understood so many things about cars and that experience has helped me gain a lot of knowledge about what mistakes should we avoid while purchasing a new car and how should we test it and many more like this. To be very frank, using all those insights and experiences is how I’m writing all the answers currently (If you’ve been a viewer of my past answers). Now I’ll tell you about the part I’ve mentioned above in the points section. We’ve done a mistake. Yes! Before I’m going to tell you everything, a small mention for all the Ford EcoSport lovers is that please read the rest of the post before you start to comment about either me or about the car. What’s the mistake is what you’re anxious to know and its the vehicle itself. Why? Mistake - 1 : ,If the vehicle is for me, it would’ve been awesome but its for my family and in general, I should’ve chosen a vehicle with an AMT or probably an AT gearbox which we couldn’t find in the sub 4-metre SUV segment at decent price in diesel that possess good ride quality and can handle the bumps and pot holes well in any type of roads. Mistake - 2 : ,We haven’t test driven all the other important players like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and all. (Maruti Suzuki Brezza was not in our choice as we once had a pretty bad experience with it when we decided to go for a long trip in a badly laid route and also for its less features. Some might be happy with them but its just my opinion only and don’t feel offensive about it.) What about now? Except for the stiff ride, we don’t have any major regrets at all. Why is that? Here are a few. 1. It has a gem of an engine that can pull very strongly even with full house. 2. Styling though crossover-ish, it looks very sporty atleast to my eyes. 3. Handling (Ford lovers! Comment about this aspect.) 4. Features (Highly satisfied considering what we were offered at that time.) So, on an overall, our choice was a good one except for the aspect of ride quality and next time we’re gonna change our car, I’ll make sure there is no chance for any occurance of a slight mistake whatsoever. 😀 Thank you for reading this lengthy post and do comment your experience of purchasing your car and also mention how you felt about it. Thank you once again and have a nice day.
Depends on the car and the segment. However if you are tight on the budget, go for the ,Car You Can Afford in it's Top Trim. Like if you are planning for the Elantra in it's base trim, go for the Verna in it's top trim. Don't buy a creta in it's base trim, but instead buy a Venue/Eco Sport in it's top trim. Some cars in it's lower spec models also have inferior engines too. Avoid that at all costs. However if you have decided to buy that car, try stretching your budget and go for the top trim. I know you can show off more to your neighbour with a base model MG Hector/ Kia Seltos as against a Top spec Eco Sport. But the story often ends there. Today the tech and convenience on offer is a major deal for me, I want you to know why it's important. Top spec cars are a win-win. Try comparing the brochures and add an approximate price for each feature, you'll see that the final price comes out to be cheaper with a top spec car. Of course the manufacturer has a greater margin too by selling you that, but that comes down to economies of scale. Also you'll have a far better ownership experience with a top trim of a car. You'll be able to connect with it more and value it more. A top spec of a car is the one which the manufacturer always wanted it to be, and not the other way around. They tend to be better engineered. Also, fit and finish will have a big difference if you go and fit those features aftermarket. Trust me. I've tried both, and I'm not returning to buying a base model of a car. For example, my Hyundai Grand i10 Asta has a built in 7 inch touch screen with android auto/apple carplay, auto folding mirrors, rear ac vents, all 4 power windows, speed dependent audio controls, steering mounted audio controls, alloys, ABS and so on which the base model lacks. Dream of fitting power windows, the oem grade touch screen or ABS which the car lacked back then in 2017 in it's base trim. When I reverse my car, the audio volume turns down automatically. Tell me you wouldn't love that. Also, the camera quality is something which my friends envy till date. I personally know people who have base model cars and they use a phone holder to use maps and a Bluetooth speaker to play songs in their cars. You wouldn't want to be one of them. The sales executive will convince you by all means to sell you lower trims, because he also has a target to sell you those accessories, so don't listen to them. I haven't visited the aftermarket accessorie shop to fit a single thing (not even seat covers) and I'm happier than ever. I wouldn't want to exchange my top spec Grand i10 for a base trim i20 anyday. Having said all these, if you are buying a car in 2020 look for a trim level which offers at least the following features: Inbuilt AVN with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. Did you know, without updating your RC, fitting a aftermarket AVN is illegal? Alloy wheels (Mainly due to asthetic appeal). Dual tone wheels just adds the cherry on top. Traction control (if possible) Auto AC, mainly because de frosting the windscreen is just a push of the button away. Rear camera. I'm not including ABS and airbags, because now they are standard among all new cars. That being said, if you are compromising on the built quality of a car, it's better not to do so. For example, if you were to buy the Tiago in it's base trim, and due to budget constraints, are switching to the Kwid, avoid it at all costs. Work something out, wait for some time, or finance the car for a longer period and buy the Tiago only in it's top trim. All things considered, this answer is a general one. Finding fault in this is easy. But, know your requirements and then work out something. Remember no car is a bad car, a good car is something that will fit your requirements perfectly.
