ford ecosport accident Q&A Review

Which car should I buy if my budget is 10 lakh - a Duster, Vitara Brezza, or Ecosport?

All the 3 cars are good options but prefer ford ecosport. Because if you are interested in driving then ford ecosport would be good because it is has powerful ecoboost petrol engine which has more pickup and there is no turbolag and we would get mileage upto 17kmpl-19kmpl and diesel is 99ps engine which is better for Indian roads. And coming to safety ford offers 6 Airbags and ABS&EBD. Ford maintenance is costlier when compared to other vehicles. Ford has emergency assist which sends information to your loved ones in case of any accidents or any of the breakdown of the car.

What's the best car in the range of 12 L in the SUV category in terms of the best build quality in India?

When it comes to best build quality. No one can beat VW. See for yourself But sadly VW don’t make sub 4 meter SUV because they know if they make one, the cost will be high. That’s why VW Tiguan cost more than 30 lac ₹ while any other 5 seater SUV like Compass/ Creta/ Duster/ Tuscon costs less than that. I know the segment is different but VW don’t make any cars in the segment in which they cannot offer build quality at the competitive price. So enough of digressing let’s come back to Question. The best build quality after VW is of FORD then HYUNDAI then TATA. So you’re only left with two options Ford Ecosport Tata Nexon. To be honest Nexon might be good in build quality but it’s not good in driving dynamics. Nexon’s wheelbase is shorter , ground clearance is larger, length is shorter all these factors leads to Rolling of the car. You might’ve noticed that in most of the Nexon’s accidents the car is found upside down. That raises a question on Nexon’s driving dynamics. But if you want a feature loaded car & don’t like to drive too much Nexon is the ,best, option. But if you like driving & want good performance then Ecosport should be your choice. Both are good but most of the people often say that, if you can afford ,Titanium/ Titanium +, variant of ,Ecosport, then don’t buy ,Nexon,. If you cannot then buy ,Nexon,. Ecosport, is more on the ,premium, side & it is much more fun to drive than ,Nexon,. Vitara Brezza, is also good but that car doesn’t have any WOW factor except for mileage. Hope it cleared your thoughts regarding the SUV segment.

In the Ford Ecosport, even when the car is centrally locked, the car can be opened from inside 'normally' while in motion (without driver's intervention). This can cause an accident if someone (especially kids) accidentally opens the door. Why?

This is a concern that a lot of people share about the EcoSport. Let me explain it the way I understand it. The EcoSport’s central locking system is a power lock system. In essence, it is operated electrically (not purely mechanically, like in a lot of cars). Ever locked your key in the car and then have someone insert a metal ruler into the gap between the window and the seal to magically unlock the door? Well, an electrical lock system makes sure someone can’t do that and access your car just like that. Pretty good, huh? Well, there’s a flip side to this. In the event of a crash, if the car loses electrical power and the doors are locked, you will not be able to open them. It is to prevent this that the EcoSport’s locking system allows you to open the doors from inside at any point of time, irrespective of whether the car is locked and/or whether it has lost electrical power. It might sound like a bad feature but it is put there with passenger safety in mind. Now, coming to kids accidentally opening the door while the car is in motion, the EcoSport has child locks on both the rear doors, which when enabled, prevent opening of the door from the inside. So if you have naughty toddlers in the back seat, just turn the child lock on. And of course, happy and safe miles ahead.

Ford car owners: How is your experience with current generation cars from the manufacturer? Would you recommend for a person to buy his next car as Ford?

The production of ,Ford cars in India,, after it re-entered the Indian car-bazaar, began in 1998 at the Chennai-based facility, the first locally produced model being Ford Escort, which was later succeeded by Ford Ikon in 2001. Ever since then, a number of new models have been introduced by this American brand in India, like the Endeavour and the Fiesta, and several have been discontinued as well, such as the Fusion and the Mondeo. At present, the fleet of Ford in India comprises of a total of 6 models, namely Ford Figo, Ford Freestyle, Ford Aspire, Ford EcoSport, and Ford Endeavour. With such spectacular models to offer, the automaker ranks amongst the strongest game-players in the Indian automobile field. Ford has recently shifted focus on providing high-satisfaction customer-service, particularly in terms of after-sales offerings. Currently, Ford has 376 sales and service outlets in 209 cities across India. The brand has also recently started a partnership with India's homegrown automotive manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra to co-develop a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. The two also aim to work on a small electric vehicle along with other exchanges of technologies and components. I have had Ford Fiesta as my first Ford car in 2006 I drove that car for about 11 years and sold that in 2017 after clocking 4.8 lacs Kilometers. Initially, from 2006 to 2011 my dad used to drive it, later I got the opportunity to drive this majestic car. Below are some images of My Ford Fiesta. This picture was taken when it clocked 4.5 Lacs kms and I spent some good amount in service. New headlamps were installed, all 4 new jumpers with a new front axle. By grace, I never had to get any engine job done as I used to maintain it very well as he was my younger brother. This was a very sensational moment when I was traveling from Delhi to Gujarat and banged it in a moving truck as I had a sleepy head. This was the only accident I met with my Fiesta. It neither had ABS not Airbag, and I came out with 0 scratches, bruises or any sort of injury. Damaged faced: The windshield was cracked. RHS headlamp was broken. Coolant storage box and few wiring. RHS fender and Bonnet. RHS apron was damaged (Major) had to get that spot weld. I got all my repairs done at a local shop where we installed original Headlamp, and Saint Gobain windshield. Remaining items were arranged from the scrap yard and secondhand junk market and were refurbished then installed. The total cost for the repairs was 46K. I was able to drive it again as it was driven before I managed to take a picture of the speedometer at 165 km hr post-accident. I would recommend Ford to everyone as my experience is great I own another Ford Figo as well I bought it in 2014. One of my Friend owns Ford Endeavor we often use it for offroading. Wear Seatbelt and Drive safe, if you are sleepy take a halt at any comfortable stop and take nap. Do not drive with a sleepy head. Always make sure the breaks and headlights are in good condition and don't take any chances with the tyre. Images: My mobile phone

Which one is the best among Mahindra XUV300 vs Ford Ecosport vs Tata Nexon vs Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza?

Today, the sub-compact SUV segment is crowded like Super-Markets on offer days. There are many viable options to consider in 7–11 lakh (On-road) price range. Starting right from Budget options like Nissan Magnite going upto costliest of the lot XUV300 and Ecosport. Kia Sonet is one Blockbuster hit proving its mettle in the Indian market with its valid strengths. Brezza will keep outselling the competition no matter what but Nexon has caught up the 3rd position well too. Let’s move towards the answer what you expected for the question… In Short, each car has its disadvantages based on price, features, safety etc. But if you want most Value For Money car, it's the Tata Nexon and XUV300(Both are made-in-india car with 5-Star result in crash test NCAP). Although XUV300 is better choice if you can stretch your budget, it's is the only Indian car received Global NCAP 'Safer Choice Award'. P.S. : I’m not selling any of the cars to readers, this is just my personal opinon. Now , let's discuss each car in detail , 1)Mahindra XUV300- It packs an unending list of features compared to remaining 3 cars mentioned here(Albeit less than Kia Sonet). Also it has respectable space in cabin at Rear for 3 passengers comfortably. The Petrol and diesel engines both are most powerful in comparison to other cars but steering response is not as enthusiastic as Ecosport. And the prominent price premium over the competitors will take on-road price nearly to 13–14lakhs which is a segment above! Overall, if you want all the bells and whistles packed in car with good engines, decent ride quality , 7 airbags & Respectable after sales service support, XUV300 is choice for you! It it a good package now but not the most VFM in the market. image credit: Mahindra XUV300 Website 2)Ford Ecosport- This car started the Compact SUV segment back in 2013 but it lost its craze after Vitara brezza was launched. In Ecosport's latest avatar, it's an attractive buy considering the fact that Ecosport S trim has Ecoboost 1Ltr engine chruning out maximum power 123HP in Litre class engine! The car has decent list of Features mainly- 8 inch Sync3 touchscreen infotainment system, 6 airbags, 17 inch alloys (with spare wheel as an alloy!). Rear space in Ecosport is limited both in width as well as legroom, better suited for 2 passangers while 3 might be squiz! Finally, Ride and handling- For which Ecosport is known, suspension is set on the firm side meaning that ride on slow city speeds is harsh while car remains glued to the road at high speeds with Rock solid stability! Handling is the best among all compact SUVs. This is a good buy if you want to transport mainly 4 and want a Driver's car. We have one, and I don't regret the decision buying it over the Vitara brezza! Current Top-end version Ecosport SE is the one buyer should think of while opting this. Overall, Ecosport is 2nd most expensive car in this comparison but it offers what others cannot and it justifies it's price tag for flaunting the best driver’s cross over yet. image credit: Ford Ecosport Website 3) Tata Nexon- The head-turner car from Tata which lifted them from slow sales, this car is now available as a face-lift. New version is already launched in january 2020. But even current Nexon is a good VFM car which has more space than Ecosport in the rear, better ride quality and decent feature list. This car has absolutely brilliant ride quality and XUV300 comes neck and neck with Nexon. Funky looks, 1.5Ltr diesel engine, ride quality of are plus points of Nexon. It provides all the basics right but fails in terms of Premium-ness that XUV300(or even Venue) offers. Nexon is a great VFM car and it is the safest car of the India too(5 star NCAP rating & various accidents proved the Nexon's strength)!. If you are on a budget and want spacious car with best ride quality(if you live in area having bad roads), Nexon is great choice. BS6 petrol & diesel engines are with the same power & torque figures as before so no worries in that aspect. Tata’s 1.5 diesel mill is now a proven engine after being used for nearly 3 years in Nexon. Safety features are improved including Electronic Traction Control Roll- over Mitigation Emergency Brake assist Hill Hold Control Electronic Brake Pre-fill Brake Disc Wiping After the facelift, it even got attractive in terms of looks and Tata has thrown in some segment essential features like sunroof, updated infotainment system and diamond cut alloy wheels. Also there is varied color scheme available for buyers to choose from. image credit: Tata Nexon website 4)Maruti Suzuki Vitara brezza- Ignoring all the bad things it has, this is the king of the hill in terms of sales due to Maruti Suzuki network and service. But Vitara brezza doesn't provide anything special like other cars in this comparison. Vitara brezza just ticks the basics correct. Rear seat is spacious enough for 3 passengers abreast and legroom is enough too. Interior quality is inferior and ride-handling is poor too. Handling is least enthusiastic in this comparison while suspension is set on stiff side. This car has got 4 stars in NCAP test but safety still remains questionable. Maruti Suzuki is known mostly for one thing and it's the Fuel economy/mileage. If you ask the Brezza “kitna deti hai?” , It would give a mouthshutting reply to other cars in comparison. Vitara brezza provides decent performance with incredible fuel economy meaning it's the most frugal to run. The new 2020 Brezza is only equipped with 1.5 Ltr K-series Petrol motor with 138Nm of torque which seems very low on paper but is enough to propel the car out on the road with adequate acceleration as per driver demands. It’s bad that the diesel engine choice is no more available but is good in a way that diesel engines pollute more even after BS6 transition compared to a petrol motor. The base variant of Brezza i.e. LXi is VFM trim compared to other cars in segment and their pricing but overall Brezza has became a pricey option now after BS6 facelift. In terms of price : Nexon~Brezza<Ecosport<XUV300. Now, depending upon the usage you have choice of engines in all the three cars except Brezza(only petrol). Best suitable engine as per enthusiasts and reviewers on World-wide web is the Ford’s 1.5 Ltr TDCi engine with minimal turbo lag and powerful enough while offering smoothness. While for city usage it’s Brezza’s petrol unit which does all basics right. Nexon’s petrol engine and diesel engine are in the mid of top and bottom performers. XUV300 is setup with the most powerful engines here and it provides adequate grunt too for a spirited drive. If you just want a sub-compact SUV with just enough features to keep it usable, then go for Brezza base model ( pray to god for the safety). Next option(Around 9–10 lakhs) to consider would be Nexon XM with enough features although it’s not Most VFM but gives you 5-star rate safety as per NCAP tests. Finally if you can extend budget upto 12–13 lakhs (on-road), it’s good to get XUV300 over Ecosport, although enthusiast drivers should opt for Ford only. All of these cars have automatic transmission option available for city buyers to everyday commute. Hence, deciding Best car among these is not as straight forward as you think. Even Venue is proving it's worth by topping the sales chart every now and then. Kia Sonet is also a viable option to consider but the question doesn’t mention it. I think it depends purely on one's needs to choose the best among Xuv300-Ecosport-Nexon-Brezza. Although my choice of car would be Nexon as it is a great VFM package. Thank you.

What are some badly designed cars in India?

My Bad Design Award goes to Ford Ecosport . It has the most biggest A Rod. The rod next to side mirror. I have literally hit cars and bikes and people while turning. It creates hugh blind spot which gets really difficult while turning. Especially in india where people cross roads however they like. I am just plain lucky that i didnt have major accident.

Does Ford Ecosport develop rattling noises over long term usage like Maruti cars?

No definitely not, mine Ecosport is still rattle free despite over 6 years/100000 km abuse. Why I say abuse because Had an accident with a tempo(vikram) and a tractor. Because of head-on collision with tempo and tractor, the front suspension was gone with wheels being severed from the body. I was saved because I wasn’t driving at very high speed(60–65 kmph before impact & braking) and was wearing seat belts. The body shell was completely intact with no intrusion whatsoever and I joined office next day. The car was in bodyshop for 2 months and though now the outside noise (mostly wind ) has increased but the car remains rock solid. The tractor guy actually pushed the car off-road after seeing the damage while I was in car and ran away. I could open the driver’s door and got out while the public was running behind the tractor guy who was running full throttle. The vikram guy was unconscious for a while and promptly ran away when the ambulance which I called for him arrived. The vikram driver was drunk and was bleeding from head and face. Sometimes because I need to transfer some of my goods urgently, I have used it (to transfer 40–50 Motorcycle tyres) on really bad, rural roads still no noise. My family’s second car which is a S-Cross has rattles if driven on horrible roads. not to mention, its clutch has already been changed despite my brother being a better driver than me. The Ecosport has been very reliable, always starting with first crank. Only thing that I miss with this is lack of cruise control and better head lights. Just for 2 months I was driving my brother-in law’s WagonR and you can’t even imagine the difference. In between, once my brother in law borrowed my car, and wife was really worried while sitting in the WagonR as according to her, the car seems/feels so fragile that it can’t protect us in case of any mishap. I plan to keep my car till I hit 2,00,000 KM as the cost of running is really low (2 services for Rs 7800 only) excluding alignment and balancing.

Which one is better as an overall package, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza or Ford Ecosport, and why?

The original sub-4 meter Quassi-SUV vs the Contender! Maruti Suzuki does deserve acclaim for spoiling a set party., ,They did that with the Indigo CS with their own Swift Dzire and now the Vitara Brezza is giving sleepless nights to the strategists at Ford India. It certainly reflects in the brazen fashion in which Ford slashed the prices for the Ecosport to the tune of one lakh and above. Let me share my thoughts on the various aspects that are important for customers in this segment: Bang for the Buck The top-end Zdi plus is priced at 9.62 lakh Ex-Showroom here in Hyderabad vis-a-vis the Titanium+ variant of the Ecosport which is priced at 9.99 lakh Ex-Showroom. Not much to choose from when it comes to features. Both the cars pamper you to the core,, ,starting from push button start to a host of other features. The Brezza scores a few extra points for it’s touch screen interface with apple play option. I wont mind trading that for the ,Emergency Assist ,available with the Ford which uses a paired phone to alert emergency services in the case of an accident. And the warranty of two years or one lakh kilometers being offered by Ford surely adds value over the 2 years or 40,000 kms being offered by Maruti Suzuki. Performance Having driven both the cars I still feel the resident champion in this segment when it comes to handling is still the, Ecosport. The feedback that you get from the steering of the Ford is pure bliss. The Maruti still does a respectable job when it comes to the ride quality. The power on offer from the 1.5 litres diesel mill from the Ford trumps on most aspects over the Fiat sourced 1.3 litre engine in the Maruti. The mid-range of the tried and tested 1.3Litre makes it pleasurable to drive though. ARAI claimed mileage of both the cars are pretty close. The Maruti returns 22 kmpl and the Ford just about sniffs past it at 22.7 kmpl.(I take it with a pinch of salt) Space and Comfort Both these cars are near identical when it comes to length. Where the Brezza is wider, the Ecosport has a bigger wheelbase and offers more head-room. The cabin of the Brezza is definitely roomier, thanks to the huge expanse of glass area. Even the seats are soft and comfortable. The Ecosport does offer good bolstering for someone horizontally challenged like me. My healthier friends beg to differ here. The cluttered center console of the Ford doesn't feel that comfortable to me. Looks You can’t really expect too much from a four meter SUV. The Brezza does seem to have hit the sweet spot with it’s wide and chin-up stance. Quite like it in the Blue with the white contrast roof. Quite a contrast here. Pun intended. source:,Redirect Notice Tip:Maybe you can try the Mini Cooper stripes on it. Now that you have come this far. The last and the least important aspect for quite a few of us. ,SAFETY. *ABS with EBD *Traction Control *Electronic Stability Control *Hill-launch Assist *Emergency Assist *Six airbags *Excellent build quality All these in the Ford Ecosport and yes you get dual airbags and ABS with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Happy Motoring :)

Are Ford cars really good in build quality and safe than other car brands?

I think am the right person to answer this question and answer is “Yes”. Am the proud owner of Ford ecosport vehicle since 2013. And I can say the build quality of vehicle is much better compared to others brands in India. Am not telling this just because I own one. On 1–1-2014 while I was traveling to bangalore with my wife, we met with an road accident near hassan and it was a headon collision. There were total 3 vehicles involved in, Ford ecosport, tata Indica and Honda City. There were many casualties but thanks to Ford strong build quality and the seat belt we were saved. The driver from Indica died on the spot and the vehicle was damaged beyond recognition. Later after the initial investigation by police we came to know that Indica guys were drunk as it was the new year day. But unfortunately because of his mistake he took way total 7 lives on the day. So answer is again yes. And those who are reading this, please wear seat belts if you are driving or as a passenger even if the distance is short.

MY OPINION: I would go with Ford Ecosoprt due to the, Kerb Weight., The added Kerb Weight does really ,makes a difference, when a car crashes but it also makes the ,car prone to slow breaking,. The Venue is light by 284 kg so it can definitely brake better than the Ford but we’re here for the end result which is a collision. In the end, mostly a Ford wins.
