The ongoing Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024 saw the ASEAN launch of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door which garnered overwhelming acceptance.

The S brand’s Indonesian distributor, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) revealed to Indonesian media that it received 1,200 orders for the elongated Jimny in just 3 days. The orders weren’t just from visitors attending IIMS 2024 in Jakarta but throughout Indonesia who booked via video call.

Department Head of 4W Sales for PT SIS, Randy R. Murdoko, said that buyers reacted very positively to the Jimny 5-door. Saying to OtoDriver, “There are little questions or hesitation from most buyers upon viewing the vehicle.”

Fully imported from India at Maruti Suzuki’s plant, the Jimny 5-door is available in Indonesia in 4 variants priced between IDR 462 million to IDR 478.6 million (~RM 141k-146k). Compared to the Japan-built 3-door, prices for the 5-door are about 4 percent higher.

The Jimny 5-door adds the practicality of extra doors for accessibility to a more usable rear seating space. Compared to the 3-door Jimny, it is 485 mm longer in length and 340 mm lengthier in wheelbase.

The powertrain in the Jimny 5-door remains the same as the regular 3-door with the naturally aspirated 1.5-litre K15B petrol mill producing 103 PS and 134 Nm. Power is sent to all 4 wheels via the AllGrip Pro 4WD system and is hooked to either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.

With the Jimny making its launch in Indonesia, could we see it making its way here in Malaysia? Only one variant of the Jimny 3-door is offered here; fully imported (CBU) from Japan, the slushbox variant is priced from RM 174,900.
