Proton’s latest and fourth model based on a Geely, the 2023 Proton S70 finally made its launch yesterday night. The Malaysian Tiger’s first all-new sedan in more than half a decade is available in 4 variants – Executive, Premium, Flagship, and Flagship X.
All 4 variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine that makes 150 PS and 226 Nm. This 3-pot turbocharged multi-port injected (MPI) mill is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that drives the front wheels.
At a press conference following the S70’s launch and price announcement, Proton CEO, Dr Li Chunrong revealed that 1,200 bookings for the new sedan have been received to date with deliveries expected to arrive by early next year.
He also said that Proton is expecting the number of orders to rise to at least 5,000 by the end of this year. Proton expects to sell 2,000-3,000 units of the S70 every month.
Of the 4 variants offered, the Premium and Flagship are the most popular with each accounting for around 40% of total orders. Around 20% of buyers opted for the top-of-the-range Flagship X variant.
The S70 is already well-kitted with standard features including 6 airbags, 5 USB ports, and rear air-conditioning vents.
The Premium variant offers leatherette seats, automatic air-conditioning, LED headlights, auto-folding door mirrors, and a reverse camera.
Both the Flagship and Flagship X variants occupy the top of the S70 range with the only difference between the variants being the sunroof which is exclusive to the Flagship X. The two S70 Flagship variants receive the following features:
Dimensions-wise, the S70 is closer to a C-segment sedan like the Honda Civic but in terms of price, it undercuts non-local B-segment models like the Honda City or Toyota Vios. These are the prices of the S70 variants:
