2021 Mercedes E-Class W213 drops "gunsight" hood ornament, coming to Malaysia next year

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) will lose the traditional hood ornament that has adorned so many Mercedes-Benz cars over the years. Mercedes has confirmed the matter after the option was no longer available on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) online configurator, as reported by MotorTrend.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to launch in Malaysia early 2021.
Hood ornaments started out as temperature gauges, but when temperature gauges were moved to the dashboard, hood ornaments functioned solely as the radiator caps.
As cars evolved to have proper bonnets, only certain manufacturers retained the hood ornament for aesthetic purposes (mainly luxury brands).
It seems that as the Mercedes-Benz emblem has moved to the grille (and grown much larger) on the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213), the “gunsight” emblem has become redundant.
The badge is already big enough to show people what car you are driving. The hood ornament has now been replaced with a button badge instead.
The Mercedes-Benz E Class is not the first Mercedes to lose the hood ornament. The C-Class, SL-Class, and other Mercedes-Benz cars have ditched the hood ornament previously.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E Class made its global debut in March 2020. Engine options are not confirmed, but we are expecting the new M254 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, replacing the previous car’s M264 engine.
The new engine uses a 48V mild hybrid electrical network, by virtue of an integrated starter-motor generator (ISG). The engine alone makes 272 PS, with the ISG adding another 20 PS.
There’s also a new 3.0-litre six-cylinder M256, also with ISG (Integrated Starter motor Generator). Both engines are paired to a new 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission
We’ve spotted two 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213) in Malaysia in two supposedly different variants and the “gunsight” emblem is nowhere to be seen.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E Class has received an array of changes from the current generation in Malaysia. It even showcases newer ADAS and MBUX.
The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to launch early next year.
