Toyota Yaris outsells Honda Jazz in Thailand - Captures 31% market share!

In Malaysia, we all know the Perodua Myvi easily outsells every other hatchback (and car) but up north in Thailand, it’s the Toyota Yaris that is dominating the hatchback market.

According to sales data by Headlightmag, the Vios-based hatchback sold 2,139 units in June 2020, making its total cumulative figure to 10,679 sold in 2020 so far. That makes up 31.1% of the hatchback market, easily dominating the rest of the competition.

Following the Toyota Yaris are the Honda Jazz and Suzuki Swift which are placed at number 2 and number 3 overall respectively. However, sales of the Swift are a little higher than the Honda Jazz in June - 913 compared to 901.

The reason for the Yaris’ dominance is possibly the introduction of a new variant, the jacked-up Yaris Cross, which shares the same 1.2-litre 3NR-FE (92 PS/109 Nm) as the Thai-spec Yaris. The Yaris sold in Thailand falls under the Thai Eco Car category, which is why it has a smaller engine. The Malaysian Yaris (no Cross variant here) is powered by a 1.5-litre 2NR-FE that produces 107 PS and 140 Nm.

Meanwhile, Suzuki introduced a GL Sports Edition variant for the Swift which helped Suzuki to overtake Honda in June sales by just a little.

Speaking of Honda, the City Hatchback will potentially replace the aging Jazz in some ASEAN and Latin American markets including Thailand, Brazil, and Malaysia. No doubt that will create quite a commotion in the hatchback segment when it gets introduced.

Oops... Something broke.

Toyota's Kinto is getting bored, finds a way to make the AH30 Alphard and Vellfire sliding doors close faster

You know how some cars can be truly fantastic except for one minor detail that you just can’t overlook and it ends up ruining the entire driving experience. It could be a terrible head unit or a bad seating position. Well, some of the engineers at Toyota’s Kinto subscription service thought that could be the abysmally slow speed of the sliding doors on the previous AH30 generation of the Toyota Alphard and Vellfire. Either that or they must be getting really bored over there. Or someone has secr
