Chery is coming to Malaysia and making quite a mark online with its Facebook page constantly being updated and a group that’s dedicated to the Omoda 5. However, it remains to be seen when exactly they will make a return here but there are two models which are pretty much locked down – the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro.
The Tiggo 7 Pro is a C-segment SUV that will be a close rival to the Proton X70 and Honda CR-V, two of the most popular models in the segment. Meanwhile, the Tiggo 8 Pro acts as the flagship model in Chery’s lineup and it will be a challenger to the upcoming Proton X90 which is based on the Geely Haoyue/Okavango.
The “Pro” family line-up consists of 5 models in total which are sold all over the world. Besides the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, the other models are the Tiggo 2 Pro, the Tiggo 4 Pro, and the Arrizo 6 Pro.
The Tiggo 4 Pro might be familiar to some Malaysians as a few units were spotted around the country last year. Despite the X50 rival being quite appealing especially for the growing compact SUV market, Chery might be banking more on the larger Tiggo Pro models.
Last we reported, the Chinese carmaker is due to make its return to Malaysia by the third quarter of 2022 at the earliest. The first few models to be launched here could be imported from Indonesia with the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro among the models that were announced for assembly in the archipelago.
Though the Anhui-based carmaker is more famous here for the RAV4 copycat Tiggo and the surprisingly popular Eastar, today’s Chery promises to be far different from its past offerings. It has received multiple awards including the Most Technical SUV and Best Advanced Technology SUV for the Tiggo 8 Pro, while the Tiggo 7 Pro received the Best-Selling SUV and Most Popular Chinese Model.
The Tiggo 8 also achieved another milestone by becoming the fastest model to reach the 500,000th unit mark among Chinese brands in the mid-size and 7-seater SUVs. The flagship has also found success in Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Chile, so could that be repeated in Malaysia?
