Spyshots of the D27A Alza have been leaked
At least 2 variants available
Could get the Ativa front design but everything else is similar to Xenia
The Perodua Alza is the oldest model in the second Malaysian carmaker’s line-up and as such its chapter is ending with its all-new replacement, codenamed D27A, possibly due to launch soon. Whether the 2022 Perodua Alza will keep the name remains under wraps for now.
But what isn’t under wraps is what it would look like as videos and screenshots of it have been circulating around social media. Based on what we have seen, it looks like the D27A could sport a design that closely resembles the Perodua Ativa in front.
Overall, the D27A has a silhouette that is identical to the Toyota Avanza/Veloz and Daihatsu Xenia. All four models sit on the DNGA platform and for the first time ever, the Toyota and Daihatsu derivatives run on a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout instead of rear-wheel drive (RWD).
Though the front looks largely similar to the Ativa to give it more than just a quick swapping of badges, the rear appears to retain the Xenia’s design.
Based on the photos, it appears that the D27A could be offered in at least 5 colours which are white, grey, black, silver, and red. Of note, the red colour appears to be similar to the Cranberry Red hue which is currently available on the Myvi 1.5 AV variant.
Besides, there could be at least two variants of the D27A based on the wheel designs. It appears that higher variants could be equipped with a two-tone 5-spoke design similar to the Aruz while the lower variants could get alloys that appear similar to the base Ativa variant.
As for power, expect the naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine (106 PS/137 Nm) that is used on the Avanza/Veloz/Xenia to be the sole unit offered for the D27A Alza. This could be hooked up to a D-CVT that is also used on the refreshed Myvi and Ativa.
In terms of features, more details will be revealed closer to the D27A Alza’s launch date but we can expect it to be generous just like other Perodua models.
Its Toyota and Daihatsu triplets are equally well-equipped so we can expect features like LED headlights, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an electric parking brake (EPB), and a 9-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support to be available on the next-gen Alza. Yes, the latter could make the D27A the first Malaysian car to be equipped with proper smartphone connectivity.
Safety features are no doubt going to be as generous too on the all-new Alza with Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) ADAS suite to be available on most of the variants along with 6 airbags. The latter is the maximum count on the equivalent Daihatsu and Toyota models.
However, with all these new additions, we can also expect prices to go much higher than the outgoing Alza which is currently priced between RM 51,940 to RM 62,690 (prices with SST). Potentially, prices could range between the mid-RM 60k mark to the RM 80k mark which could make it the most expensive Perodua model to date.
With all the added enhancements to the ageing Alza, could the higher price pull people away from Perodua’s evergreen 7-seater or attract even more buyers over the features alone? We’ll only have to wait and see for the announcement to come in the next few weeks.
