We all have our own methods of escaping reality to relax and recharge. For some, itâs a holiday. Others might prefer quiet time to indulge in a passion project or hobby. For Wan Muhammad Adam, thatâs an off-road adventure with his family behind the wheel of his heavily modified Mitsubishi Triton Adventure X.
He sat down with Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) to share his passion for the Triton as well as off-roading in a short video.
âItâs more like driving a Mitsubishi Lancer than a pick-up truck, thatâs how comfortable it is,â shared the father of 2.
In fact, he loves sharing his off-roading and camping adventures with his family, bringing his 2 kids and wife along every time he takes Triton on the path less taken.
âWorking in oil and gas, I spend a few months away from my family at times and when I'm back home, I want to make the most of it. Taking them along off-roading and camping in the jungle is a great way to bring the family closer together,â he added.

âMy kids love rivers, anytime thereâs a river when we go off-roading or camping, theyâre the most excited,â he enthused.
Adamâs admiration for the Triton started when he first joined a friendâs expedition in a first-generation Triton. From there, he conducted a lot of research before buying the flagship Triton Adventure X, citing the powerful engine, reliability and safety features as the deciding factors.
From the short clip, itâs evident that Adam doesnât hold back when he goes off-roading.
Thatâs also one of the reasons he selected the Triton Adventure X; it was the only Triton with Mitsubishiâs Super-Select 4WD.
How is it different from conventional 4WD systems in other pick-ups you ask?
Well, there are two types of 4WD, full-time 4WD and part-time 4WD. Mitsubishi's system combines the best of both worlds, behaving like a full-time 4WD instead of a part-time 4WD.
This means you can drive on asphalt roads while putting the transfer case in 4H and it will still drive fine (thanks to a centre LSD). The Super Select 4WD feature in the Mitsubishi Triton means that it can drive like a full-time 4WD while still being able to go into 2WD mode when needed.
A full-time 4WD has a centre LSD, while a part-time 4WD does not. A part-time 4WD only has a transfer case that is either disengaged or locked. There is no centre differential for part-time 4WD vehicles. The centre LSD in a full-time 4WD can be locked on command.
In the case of Mitsubishi's system, the centre differential can also be completely disengaged via a viscous coupling to enable 2WD driving. A normal full-time 4WD cannot do this.
It definitely comes in handy in keeping him and his family out of sticky spots.
Furthermore, it also helps in keeping the 2.4-litre turbodiesel and its 181 PS with 430 Nm of torque in check. Attached to the engine is a 6-speed automatic.
From a safety perspective, the Triton Adventure X has 7 airbags, stability control, traction control, autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist (warning only) and mis-acceleration mitigation system.
For a family man that takes his family off-roading, the safety aspect alone wouldâve convinced him on the Triton.
Of course, Adam has also upgraded his Triton for the tough life. You can see it has a lift-kit, LED light bars, extended bed-over roof rack for the camp, OZ Racing wheels, MT tyres and a snorkel.
Lastly, Adam shared his dream to ship his Triton over to Borneo and experience the jungle trails there. Thatâs a dream drive we can all appreciate.
