At long last, the 6th-generation, all-new 2024 Honda CR-V has finally launched in Malaysia, rounding off the fourth and final new model introduction from Honda Malaysia this year.

The locally-assembled (CKD, Pegoh) 2024 Honda CR-V is offered in four variants at the following prices:

• CR-V 1.5T S: RM 159,900 
• CR-V 1.5T E: RM 169,900
• CR-V 1.5T V AWD: RM 181,900
• CR-V 2.0 RS Hybrid: TBC early-2024

As for the 2024 CR-V e:HEV RS, Honda Malaysia have said prices will be announced early-2024. The company has also announced a limited offer (applicable to the first 750 units) of the S variant which will priced at RM 157,900 in conjunction with Honda Motor's 75th Anniversary.

For comparison the previous generation CR-V started at RM 146,900 (2.0L 2WD), reaching up to RM 171,400 for the 1.5 TC-P 4WD. Yes, prices have gone up quite a bit.

Just like our ASEAN neighbours, Malaysia receives two powertrain variants consisting of the 193 PS/243 Nm 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo four-cylinder and the 184 PS/335 Nm (total system output) 2.0-litre dual-motor i-MMD petrol-electric hybrid powertrain.

Official fuel consumption figures claim 5.0 litres/100km for the 2.0L e:HEV and 7.0-7.5 litres/100km for the 1.5L VTEC turbo variants.

The range-topping CR-V e:HEV RS variant's hybrid powertrain produces more torque compared to the Civic 2.0L e:HEV, 335 Nm instead of the Civic's 315 Nm, due to a redesigned propulsion motor assembly; the maximum motor speed has also been increased (to 14,500 rpm) which increases top speed. Power is chanelled to the front wheels through the Honda e-CVT transmission.

As for three 1.5L VTEC Turbo variants - S,E, and V - they retain the same CVT-type automatic transmission as before, sending power to the front wheels, or in the case of the V variant, all four-wheels via Honda's new Real Time AWD system.

Elsewhere, all variants of the 2024 CR-V are supplied as standard with the (passive reacting) Amplitude Reactive Damper suspension system. It uses a second piston valve within the absorber, to provide precise damping force depending on driving conditions.

The 2024 CR-V is also the first generation to introduce the Hill Descent Control (HDC) that aids drivers when descending down steep hills - maintaining speeds between 3-20 km/h when engaged.

The 2024 CR-V has generally grown in size everywhere, to offer even more stature and practicality. This is how the 2024 Honda CR-V measures up compared to its predecessor:

All variants of the 2024 Honda CR-V receive a standard safety kit that consists of 8 airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and Honda LaneWatch Camera (LWC).

The 2024 CR-V features the upgraded Honda Sensing ADAS suite as standard on all variants which features 9 safety functions that include:

• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
• Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
• Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
• Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
• Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
• Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
• Auto High Beam (AHB)
• Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN)

For the CR-V RS variant, the AHB function is upgraded to the newly-introduced Adaptive Driving Beam (ADB) system.

Thus, it comes as no surprise the 2024 Honda CR-V has received the full 5-star ASEAN NCAP crash rating as per the latest 2021-25 protocol, with adds more stringent requirements for motorcycle detection.

The 2024 CR-V S-variant is offered with 17-inch wheels, whereas the E- and V variants receive 18-inch wheels (of the same design) and the range-topping RS gets 18-inch Berlina black wheels.

Aesthetically, the S-, E- and V-variants for the most part look identical, the RS variant adds body-coloured lower bumper garnish at the front, side and rear, whilst the antenna, B-pillar cover and door mirror covers are all finished in gloss black. Plus, in being a hybrid RS model, it receives the specific 'RS' badging and 'H' logo with a blue ring.

The 2024 CR-V is offered in five colours: Lunar Silver Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metalic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Ignite Red Metallic and the new Canyon River Blue Metallic.

On the inside, 2024 CR-V features a dashboard layout that much-like Honda Civic, courtesy of its central infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard, and the end-to-end mesh garnish on the dashboard which integrates the AC vents.

The S-variant features a fabric interior urethane steering wheel, whilst the upper E-, V- and RS variants receive a leather interior and leather steering wheel. The RS variant further ups the ante with a leather interior with contrasting red topstiching, black headliner and Metal Hairline trim.
