Mitsubishi Motors Thailand Co., Ltd. has achieved a significant milestone by producing its seven-millionth unit at the Laem Chabang facility in Chonburi. The milestone vehicle was the all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton.
Currently, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's facilities have a maximum annual production capacity of over 400,000 vehicles, with 80 percent intended for export to over 120 countries globally. As a leading auto exporter in Thailand, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has surpassed 5.5 million units in export volume, constituting 80% of its total production, including Malaysia, which imports the Triton.
Mr. Ryoichi Inaba, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd., emphasised the importance of this achievement, stating, "This is an important milestone for Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, reflecting our commitment to Thailand's development over the past 63 years. Our dedication extends across key pillars, including investment, export, environment, technology transfer, social responsibility, human resource development, and employment."
In 2023, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand inaugurated an upgraded production line at the Laem Chabang plant specifically designed for the manufacturing of the all-new Triton. Recognised as one of Thailand's highly automated welding lines, boasting a 95% automation ratio with over 250 intelligent robots, this advanced line has an annual capacity to assemble approximately 200,000 vehicle bodies.
A year prior to that, the plant got a THB 3 billion (~RM 378 million) paint facility upgrade.
Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, established in 1961, achieved its one-millionth production milestone in 2003, followed by the second million in 2010, the third million in 2013, the fourth million in 2015, and the fifth million in 2018. In 2021, marking its 60th anniversary in Thailand, the company celebrated the production of its six-millionth unit.
Operating three assembly facilities, an engine manufacturing facility, a paint shop, and a global parts logistics facility, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand is also home to the first proving ground outside Japan, focusing on research and development (R&D).
