![Malaysia-bound 2024 Mitsubishi Triton receives full 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, perfect side impact results 01]()
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has just released its test results for the Malaysia-bound 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, which achieves the full 5-star rating.
Tested under the revised 2021-25 protocol which adds a category for motorcycle safety, the 2024 Triton achieved an impressive overall score of 74.71 points. It is also the first pickup truck to be tested under the current ruling assessment.

By extension, this makes the upcoming 2024 Triton one of, if not the safest vehicle in its segment having scored impressively in the new, more rigorous test. Its immediate rivals such as the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max were all tested under the older and easier 2017-20 protocol.
With that said, the 2024 Triton performed extremely well in the test, scoring the full 8.00/8.00 in side impact tests for the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) criteria whilst achieving 13.07/16.00 marks in the frontal impact test.

The 2024 Triton also received full marks in frontal and side impact tests in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) criteria.
The tested unit is a Thai-assembled model that is currently sold in the Kingdom and Philippines. Depending on the market, the 2023 Triton is offered with 7 airbags, ABS, ESC and the Diamond Sense ADAS suite which comprises:
- Adaptive cruise control (ACC)
- Forward collision mitigation (FCM)
- Blind spot warning (BSW)
- Lane change assist (LCA)
- Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA)

Following its debut in Thailand, the 2024 Triton has gone on sale there with prices of the (184 PS / 430 Nm) 2.4-litre turbodiesel variants ranging from THB 699,000 to THB 1,027,000 (~RM 93k-136k). Prices have yet to be announced for the entry-level 150 PS / 330 Nm versions and range-topping 204 PS / 470 Nm versions.

As for Malaysia, the upcoming Triton is slated to be launched sometime within Q1 of 2024. To recap, the 4x4 variants of the current Mitsubishi Triton are priced between RM 109k (VGT MT) to RM 155k for the top-spec Triton Athlete.
