Honda Malaysia announced earlier this year that it planned to launch 4 new models in 2023. One of them, the Honda WR-V, just launched a few weeks ago while bookings orders for the Honda City facelift had just opened.
The other two Honda models that are expected to reach our shores are the all-new sixth-generation CR-V as well as the FL5 Civic Type R. Both models have been spotted in Malaysia with the CR-V being seen in camouflage undergoing testing.
Meanwhile, in the archipelago down south, the all-new CR-V has been spotted on a car carrier trailer around Jakarta. As reported by our colleagues over at AutoFun ID, the all-new CR-V is likely to be fully imported (CBU) from Thailand where the C-segment SUV made its regional debut.
The units of the CR-V are covered up with a large tape to hide the badges and the overall rear of the SUV. Our Indo colleagues also reported that the location where the photo was taken, Tanjung Priok is the port town where imported vehicles are usually brought in. Think of it as Indonesia’s Port Klang.
Internal sources at PT Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) revealed to AutoFun ID that the all-new CR-V could be making its Indonesian debut at next month’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
The unnamed source also revealed to our Indonesian colleagues that the CR-V for their market could be offered with 2 powerplants – a turbocharged 1.5-litre VTEC engine (192 PS/240 Nm) as well as a 2.0-litre two-motor i-MMD petrol-electric hybrid unit (Combined 185 PS/335 Nm).
The outgoing CR-V in Indonesia is offered with the same turbocharged unit and a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre unit (154 PS/189 Nm) though the outgoing CR-V e:HEV was shown at GIIAS 2022. The Indonesian-spec CR-V Turbo is expected to be priced from around IDR 700 million (~RM 213k) while the CR-V e:HEV could start from around IDR 800 million (~RM 243k).
That is a massive price bump compared to the outgoing CR-V which is priced between IDR 525.3 million to IDR 684.6 million (~RM 160k-208k). It’s also worth noting that the current Indonesian-spec CR-V is locally assembled (CKD) in the archipelago.
In terms of availability, the same source told AutoFun ID that the hybrid variants could be limited in quantity. “Each dealer is only allocated 2-3 units for this year, so it would be very limited,” the unnamed internal source said.
As for Malaysia, the upcoming all-new CR-V will be locally assembled (CKD) in Melaka just like its predecessor and most of Honda’s line-up. Hence, we can expect the all-new CR-V to be launched here in the final quarter of the year.
