The UMW Group, made of UMW Toyota Motor and associate company, Perodua, rounded off a strong month of sales in July, with 24,983 units delivered.

The lion’s share of that figure was of course contributed by Perodua. Sales across Perodua and Toyota for July 2022 are as follows:

• Perodua: 18,346 units
• Toyota: 6,637 units

When compared to July 2021, the figures are pretty much elementary due to the implementation of the FMCO between June and August last year. In July 2021, Perodua delivered 655 units while Toyota posted sales of 1,450 units.

For the first seven months of 2022, UMW Group has delivered a total of 198,237 vehicles across Perodua and Toyota, with 145,689 units and 52,548 units respectively.

This represents a substantial increase over the 133,506 units registered during the same period last year. The strong sales momentum has come on the back of a steady buzz of new models, led by the recently launched Perodua Alza and the upcoming launch of the Toyota Veloz.

The Perodua Ativa hybrid will also be the first hybrid to be introduced by Perodua, albeit on a subscription basis for early adopters.

Separately, the UMW Group President and CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali added that both Perodua and Toyota are sitting on huge outstanding order banks and will be ramping up production to meet demand in the coming months.

Additionally, with supply chain improvements and easing chip shortage issues, UMW Group is confident of achieving its sales target for 2022.
