Is Lexus just a Toyota?

Hey Mate Being the GVP at Lexus and having 25+ years of experience with Toyota and Lexus, I would like to clear your doubt in the best way possible. We started off as a sub brand under Toyota which we still are. Lexus is not a seperate company, but is a sub brand of Toyota itself. Lexus has differentiated itself with a luxury approach which again doesn’t mean we are seperate. Lexus is now planning to launch a new EV version of it’s flagship LS. A few upcoming cars include :: Lexus EL 600 Lexus 400 e-line Lexus RC Electric I hope you find this answer helpful Happy driving

Should I buy an Infiniti Q60?

After two model years of reading, research, test driving, and speaking to various people in various positions throughout my car guy circles I chose an Infiniti Q60 RS. Other competitors were Audi RS5, Mercedes C43, Lexus RC 350 F Sport. All nice cars, all available as AWD and RWD (except for C43, AWD only). I really wanted the C43. Liked the shape, loved the exhaust note, and found overall performance to be acceptable out of the box and very tunable for gobs more HP and torque. The ride was harsh though, even in its softest setting, and MB techs recommended I stay away as the 17 and 18 MY were coming back with loads of issues. Didnt look to promising for the 19s either. The Audi was nice and an overall improvement over fit and finish found in the Mercedes, but overall it was also just…. Dull. My wife had no opinion on this car. Where she liked the exhaust sound and interior of the C43, she was just meh… about the RS5. I must admit, the whole car didnt wow me like I thought it would after researching it online. The Lexus was nice and performed well, but the interior design language was not interesting to me at all. Last was the Q60. The shape wowed both of us online, and even more so in person. It may be the best looking coupe on the market right now. The new engine is produced by the same Nissan engine group that makes the GTR engine (the only two this particular engine group produces). Friends who build wildly high horsepower builds tell me that this motor is very stout, and the OEM internals are good for upwards of 600+ HP. Brakes are high quality, fit and finish are second to none, and the customer experience was the best I've ever personally had. 400HP out of the box is pretty amazing. Do I need it? Nope. I have a dedicated track car. Is it nice to have in a family coupe? Yep! The features to value ratio seemed highest to. Lots of safety features! My one gripe? No android auto or apple CarPlay. That's coming in the 2020 models. It took me 2 MYs to figure out what I wanted and I didnt want to wait a 3rd just for a feature I have on my phone regardless. We have 8200 miles on the Q60 and my decision to go with Infiniti deepen on every drive. You should sit in, drive, and experience all the cars that interest you in this class and ultimately make sure you love what you choose. I do.

What model is the Lexus Sport car comparable to the BMW Z4?

lexus doesn’t really make anything that compares to the Z4. Despite allusions to it, Lexus is not really a sportscar manufacturer. They’re a luxury car manufacturer. Even Lexus’s sportiest models (LF-A and RC-F) have a pretty serious luxury tilt, and despite respectable acceleration numbers, do not really compete in a track environment with cost-comparable competitors from other manufacturers. As such, Lexus wisely doesn’t presently, and hasn’t really ever competed in the “small roadster” arena. The closest previous competitor would have been an SC430 convertible, but even that is a nearly 4,000lb portly behemoth relative to a 3200–3300lb Z4. 600–800 lbs in the car world is HUGE. It’s approximately equivalent to the difference between a Honda Civic and a Honda CR-V. Closest competitors to the Z4 are the Alfa Romeo 4C, and maybe a Mercedes SLC.

What alternatives are there to the Otto cycle?

Motto: ,E pluribus unum Badīʿ az-Zaman Abū l-ʿIzz ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ar-Razāz al-Jazarī, (1136–1206) In 1206, al-Jazari invented an early ,crankshaft,, the crankshaft described by al-Jazari transforms continuous ,rotary motion, into a linear ,reciprocating motion,, and is central to modern machinery such as the ,steam engine,, ,internal combustion engine, and ,automatic controls,. Al-Jazari went on to describe the first ,suction, pipes, suction ,pump,, ,double-action, pump, and made early uses of valves and a ,crankshaft,-,connecting rod, mechanism, when he invented a ,twin-cylinder, ,reciprocating, ,piston, suction pump. Al-Jazari built automated moving peacocks driven by hydropower. he also invented the earliest known automatic gates, which were driven by hydropower, created automatic doors as part of one of his elaborate ,water clocks,, invented ,water wheels, with ,cams, on their ,axle, used to operate automata. Al-Jazari invented a hand washing ,automaton, incorporating a flush mechanism now used in modern ,flush toilets,. Alternatives to the Otto cycle: A. ,Atkinson cycle B., Miller cycle A., Atkinson cycle The Atkinson-cycle engine is a type of internal combustion engine invented by James Atkinson in 1882. The Atkinson cycle is designed to provide efficiency at the expense of power density. A modern variation of this approach is used in some modern automobile engines. The ideal Atkinson cycle consists of: 1–2 ,Isentropic,, or ,reversible,, ,adiabatic, compression 2–3 ,Isochoric, heating (Qp) 3–4 ,Isobaric, heating (Qp') 4–5 Isentropic expansion 5–6 Isochoric cooling (Qo) 6–1 Isobaric cooling (Qo') Design The common thread throughout Atkinson's designs is that the engines have an expansion stroke that is longer than the compression stroke, and by this method, the engine achieves greater thermal efficiency than a traditional piston engine. Atkinson produced three different designs that had a short compression stroke and a longer expansion stroke. "Differential Engine" The first implementation of the Atkinson cycle was in 1882; unlike later versions, it was arranged as an opposed piston engine, the Atkinson differential engine. In this, a single crankshaft was connected to two opposed pistons through a toggle-jointed linkage that had a nonlinearity; for half a revolution, one piston remained almost stationary while the other approached it and returned, and then for the next half revolution, the second-mentioned piston was almost stationary while the first approached and returned. Thus, in each revolution, one piston provided a compression stroke and a power stroke, and then the other piston provided an exhaust stroke and a charging stroke. As the power piston remained withdrawn during exhaust and charging, it was practical to provide exhaust and charging using valves behind a port that was covered during the compression stroke and the power stroke, and so the valves did not need to resist high pressure and could be of the simpler sort used in many steam engines, or even reed valves. "Cycle Engine" The next engine designed by Atkinson in 1887 was named the "Cycle Engine" This engine used poppet valves, a cam, and an over-center arm to produce four piston strokes for every revolution of the crankshaft. The intake and compression strokes were significantly shorter than the expansion and exhaust strokes. The "Cycle" engines were produced and sold for several years by the British Engine Company. Atkinson also licensed production to other manufacturers. Sizes ranged from a few up to 100 horsepower. "Utilite’ Engine" Atkinson's third design was named the "Utilite’ Engine". Atkinson's "Cycle" engine was efficient, however, its linkage was difficult to balance for high-speed operation. Atkinson realized an improvement was needed to make his cycle more applicable as a higher-speed engine. The final engine produced by the British Gas Engine company was the Utilite’ Engine. With this design, Atkinson was able to eliminate the linkages and make a more conventional, well balanced, engine capable of operating at speeds up to 600 rpm and capable of producing power every revolution yet he preserved all of the efficiency of his "Cycle Engine" having a proportionally short compression stroke and a longer expansion stroke. The Utilite’ operates much like a standard two-stroke except that the exhaust port is located at about the middle of the stroke. During the expansion / power stroke, a cam operated valve (which remains closed until the piston nears the end of the stroke) prevents pressure from escaping as the piston moves past the exhaust port. The exhaust valve is opened near the bottom of the stroke, it remains open as the piston heads back toward compression, letting fresh air charge the cylinder and exhaust to escape until the port is covered by the piston. After the exhaust port is covered the piston begins to compress the remaining air in the cylinder. A small piston fuel pump injects liquid during compression. The ignition source was likely a hot tube as in Atkinson's other engines. This design resulted in a two-stroke engine with a short compression and longer expansion stroke. The Utilite’ Engine tested even more efficient than Atkinson's previous "differential" and "cycle" designs. Very few Utilite Engines were produced, and none are known to survive. Variation The Atkinson cycle can be used in a rotary engine. In this configuration, an increase in both power and efficiency can be achieved when compared to the Otto cycle. This type of engine retains the one power phase per revolution, together with the different compression and expansion volumes of the original Atkinson cycle. Exhaust gases are expelled from the engine by compressed-air scavenging. This modification of the Atkinson cycle allows the use of alternative fuels such as diesel and hydrogen. Disadvantages of this design include the requirement that rotor tips seal very tightly on the outer housing wall and the mechanical losses suffered through friction between rapidly oscillating parts of the irregular shape. Atkinson-cycle vs Otto-cycle The disadvantage of the four-stroke Atkinson-cycle engine versus the more common Otto-cycle engine is reduced power density. Due to a smaller portion of the compression stroke being devoted to compressing the intake air, an Atkinson-cycle engine does not take in as much air as would a similarly designed and sized Otto-cycle engine. B., Miller cycle In the Miller cycle, the intake valve is left open longer than it would be in an Otto-cycle engine. In effect, the compression stroke is two discrete cycles: the initial portion when the intake valve is open and final portion when the intake valve is closed. This two-stage intake stroke creates the so-called "fifth" stroke that the Miller cycle introduces. As the piston initially moves upwards in what is traditionally the compression stroke, the charge is partially expelled back out through the still-open intake valve. Typically, this loss of charge air would result in a loss of power. However, in the Miller cycle, this is compensated for by the use of a supercharger. The supercharger typically will need to be of the positive-displacement (Roots or screw) type due to its ability to produce boost at relatively low engine speeds. Otherwise, low-rpm power will suffer. In the Miller-cycle engine, the piston begins to compress the fuel-air mixture only after the intake valve closes; and the intake valve closes after the piston has traveled a certain distance above its bottom-most position: around 20 to 30% of the total piston travel of this upward stroke. So in the Miller cycle engine, the piston actually compresses the fuel-air mixture only during the latter 70% to 80% of the compression stroke. During the initial part of the compression stroke, the piston pushes part of the fuel-air mixture through the still-open intake valve, and back into the intake manifold. Efficiency is increased by having the same effective compression ratio and a larger expansion ratio. This allows more work to be extracted from the expanding gases as they are expanded to almost atmospheric pressure. In an ordinary spark ignition engine at the end of the expansion stroke of a wide open throttle cycle, the gases are at around five atmospheres when the exhaust valve opens. The major advantage of the cycle is that the expansion ratio is greater than the compression ratio. By intercooling after the external supercharging, an opportunity exists to reduce NOx emissions for diesel, or knock for spark ignition engine. Miller cycle vs Otto-cycle The particular nature of the Miller cycle permits the supercharged version to not only be moderately more powerful, but also claim better, almost diesel-like fuel economy with lower emissions than the (simpler, cheaper) suction-intake one - in contrast to the usual situation of supercharging causing significantly increased fuel consumption. Utility The Atkinson-cycle, engines are generally found on hybrid electric vehicles, where efficiency is the goal. The Atkinson-cycle engine, to provide the most efficient means of producing the desired power. This drive-train first entered production in late 1997 in the Japanese-market ,Toyota Prius,. As of April 2017, many production ,full hybrid-electric, vehicles use Atkinson-cycle theories: ,Chevrolet Volt,, ,Chrysler Pacifica,, ,Ford C-Max, / ,Escape, / ,Fusion Hybrid, / ,Mercury Milan Hybrid, / ,Lincoln MKZ Hybrid,, ,Mercury Mariner,, ,Mazda Tribute,, ,Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid, / ,Accord Hybrid, / ,Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, ,/ ,Sonata Hybrid,, ,Hyundai Elantra, /, Grandeur, /,i Ioniq,, ,Infiniti M35h,, ,Kia Niro, / ,Optima Hybrid, /, K5, /, Cadenza, /, K7,, ,Lexus CT 200h, (/, ES 300h, /, GS 450h, /, RC F,/, GS F, /, HS 250h, /, IS 200t, /, NX, /, RX 450h,, ,Mazda Mazda6,, ,Mercedes, ML450 Hybrid, /, S400 Blue Hybrid,, ,Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV,, ,Toyota Camry Hybrid, /, Highlander Hybrid, /, Prius, ,hybrid electric, /, Yaris Hybrid, /, Auris Hybrid, /, Tacoma, /, RAV4 Hybrid, / Sienna (2016 for the 2017 model year) The Miller cycle, engines are generally found on railway locomotives such as the ,GE PowerHaul,. It was adapted by Mazda for their ,KJ-ZEM, ,V6,, used in the ,Millenia, sedan, and in their Eunos 800 sedan (Australia) luxury cars. More recently,, ,Subaru, has combined a Miller-cycle ,flat-4, with a ,hybrid, driveline for their concept "Turbo Parallel Hybrid" car, known as the ,Subaru B5-TPH,,, and Nissan has introduced a small three-cylinder engine with variable intake valve timing that claims to operate an Atkinson cycle at low load (thus the lower power density is not a handicap), or a Miller cycle when under light boost in the low-pressure, supercharged variant, returning to regular (and either suction or more strongly supercharged), more power-dense Otto cycle operation at higher loads.
