Oh man. My mum happened to want a car and a specific one at that. She wanted it brand new and despite me being a good mechanic, she refused to listen to me. Aha, so she wanted the latest Volkswagen Polo. She has a Toyota Runx in absolutely mint condition to trade in. This car already made quite a few people rich as she replaced the suspension, new tires, brakes and rotors, clutch and various other items. But I always service the car. I'm just too busy to actually do the rest of the things so she just takes it to someone else. So instead of replacing two front tires, she replaced all 4 as well as the suspension bushes. You get the idea. Mum takes the car for a trade in and gets a trade in value of R30 000 (approx 2000$). She told me and I ended up driving to the dealer in confusion. You see her car if sold privately, would have fetched around R80 000 (approx 7000$). I get there, salesman tries to convince me that all is well. Total price for the Polo was R340 000 (approx 20 000$). I enquired about her trade in. They proceeded to tell me a shock is leaking, brakes and discs needs to be replaced, there is a huge oil leak in the power steering, radiator is leaking. I told them to show me. They couldn't. They did however open the bonnet(hood) to show me the “oil leak” that was just simply an extremely small leak in the cam cover gasket. I gave them my company card and just proceeded to smile while informing my mum of their fraudulent practices. They did try and correct the trade in to a reasonable R60 000 (around 5000$). Sadly after looking at the quote for the new car and seeing that they tacked on a few extra charges such as insurance, tinting, warranty and maintenance plan. I just tore up the quote and left the dealership. This was a year ago. She still has to buy a car, and wouldn't unless I approve of it. I think she might have learnt her lesson now.
Before considering a Volkswagen, get info of your nearby Volkswagen Dealership and service center. No doubt, the Volkswagen Ameo is a great car, it is a value for money product and also the cheapest Diesel automatic to get a DSG. No gearbox is as quick as a DSG. The Diesel+DSG combo is a awesome match. Fit and Finish will be better and being a Volkswagen, it will definitely be sturdy. Now coming to the Dzire AMT, (i consider you are looking for the Diesel version here) is a all new product and being a Maruti, maintenance and service cost will be more cost effective than a Volkswagen. But the Dzire offers better interior space than the Ameo specially in the rear. Looks are subjective. If petrol car is ever considered, Volkswagen Polo GT TSI is the ultimate afford automatic hot hatchback (phew, too long a quote). Choose wisely. If i had a Volkswagen Dealership or even a service center near my place, i would have bought the Ameo DSG or Polo GT TSI. But i had to choose a Maruti Suzuki AMT for obvious reasons.
What if I ask you to compare an Orange and a Tomato just because they are fruits? Volkswagen Polo, is considered as a premium hatchback with all top notch features, amazing performance and great ride quality! One hell of a Car!! Renault Kwid,, just launched, is a SUV looking small hatchback with a small 800 cc motor but is impressive in its "class". I quoted the word before the end of sentence because that is what is missing in your question. By class, I definitely do not mean that but the different classes of cars which are made to sort things out. Now, both cars stand out in their own segments but it would be irrelevant to compare these cars because of their size, segment, price, engine etc. And, just to provide you your answer, ,Polo, is the better one!
VW overall has the best build. Especially it's VW Polo is known to be the safest in segment hatchback car. No.1 in safety- German Engineering undoubtedly. Design is Bland though! Since at VW They believe in simplicity. However, VW has the Best Automatic cars. It Uses most superior ‘7Speed DSG Gearbox’ whether it be VW Polo/Vento/Jetta/Passat or upcoming “T-Cross” suv to rival Creta. Rest carmakers use much inferior AGS/AMT/6Speed AT/AT+/iVT/CVT/DCT transmission in Automatics. So if it's the best automatic, especially in diesel... Then it's Volkswagen! No better driving cockpit & safety than VW. Looks wise, though best in that price bracket would be: 1. Honda Jazz/Amaze/City. 2. Hyundai i20/Verna. 3. Toyota Yaris/Etios Liva. 4. VW Polo/Ameo/Vento. WARNING: Volkswagen Servicing will cost you a bomb,! Compare this annual maintenance costs: Toyota Fortuner: र.2500/- (High end machine) VWPolo/Vento: र.15000/- (Basic car comparatively) Service network: VW is Poorest after Nissan. Even French carmakers Renault fares better. VW: has all core-essential features- ABS, ESP, EBD, HLA, paddle-shift, Best NCPA ratings. But VW will always miss many tiny but useful features like VW POLO has: No Smart-keys, No engine kill button, No Rear AC vents, No DRLs, No 6SRS Airbags (VW uses only dual airbags), No Rear wipers, No defoggers, No LED tail-lamps, No steering-mounted music controls, No rear parking camera(additional installation would cost 17k in VW Polo, even low end cars like Renault Kwid AMT 1.0L does come with preinstalled Rear parking camera), No touch screen infotainment systems preinstalled, No parking assist sensors, No remote opening trunk, No high-end music system like Harmon Kardon matching up its exotic price. [All this in regard to the most premium VW POLO GT TSI, a hatchback vehicle costing ,र.11,50,000/-, in Kerala,TN or states having RTO cost around 10%... Should be lesser in HP,Jharkhand,JK or other Union territories.] Imagine a hatchback like VW Polo, which is only a 1.2L engine with just 3 cylinders costing much more than Honda City VX MT, a full C-class sedan of 1.5L engine with 4 cylinders!!! Top end of the stable; VW Polo GT TSI still lacking so many features! it's Unacceptable!!!] And you may Google any VW dealerships and authorized service centres... irrespective they be of EVM, Muthoot, Popular, Pothens(Major dealerships in Kerala)... Have pathetic reviews and bad ratings... ,Volkswagen_India is most Un-German brand in India,..and Volkswagen dealerships in Kerala & India don't treat you the way Hyundai or Honda dealerships does. And any spare part would be quoted to be in import phase..so your vehicle staying in service centres would be agonisingly longgggg period, while you commute using other means..unless you have a second car. They neither do respond to your calls affirmatively ever. PS: maint cost is high and resale value is low. However VW engines have a very long life, unless you wanna change your vehicle after 15-18 yrs. if you're living in the city limits, do go for VW Polo...if you're in a tier-ll town... Depends please check your local VW Dealership's reviews & ratings. But If you're in neither of above two, it's ,“not recommended” ,since you may never find adequate service stations close by due to far flung services of VW as it doesn't have reach towards the fringes of our country, once in a blue moon visit to city just to service VW Polo might not be worth it and won't help the vehicle at least. I'd highly recommend that you go for Hyundai Santro, Honda Jazz/Brio, Ford Freestyle, Toyota Etios Liva/Cross or even Renault Kwid RXT. Would be anyday wiser to buy any other car than a Volkswagen Polo.
Porsche parts are always expensive if you buy them as Porsche branded parts from a dealer. I used to own a 1983 924S. Most of the parts were manufactured by third-party manufacturers and were common across many European cars. I dinked one of the front indicator lenses manouvering in a tight space once. I went to the Porsche dealer and was quoted £28 plus tax for a replacement lens. The lens was manufactured by Hella who make lights for a whole range of manufacturers. I looked up the Hella part number and it was common to about 9 different cars, including the Volkswagen Polo. When I went to the VW dealer and asked for a front indicator lens for a Polo, I was charged £6 including tax. Identical item, identical spec, identical part number, but it just came in a plain cardboard carton with a VW parts sticker on it, rather than a Porsche-branded carton with a pretty logo on it. Most vehicle manufacturers use parts manufactured by third party suppliers. Track down the manufacturer of the part and you can usually find it from many different sources at a fraction of the dealer price.
As you have quoted your price range in pounds, I will assume you are in the UK. I have done some research and I feel that a ,2013 Volkswagen Polo 1.6 TDI, would be perfect for you. All the owner reviews I have come across are positive and everyone who has owned one is very pleased with it. It has a modest 1600cc engine, but with that, you get fuel economy of 65.7 mpg. You will only pay annual tax of £30 if you pick the Polo 1.6 and to top it all off, you won't have to pay a pound over £6000 to drive it home.
I got a deal from the dealer for today (Feb 2017) VW Polo Petrol 1.2 Highline. VW Discount - 25000 INR First Year Insurance - 28483 INR (FREE - Dealer will sponcer) Extended RSA 2yrs - 2277 INR (50% of package price) Addl acessories below as FREE: PVC moulding for floor + VW Floor Mats (4 nos.) Mud Flap Car Cover Scuff Plates Side Door Protector With all the above discounts, i get On road Quote of 7.78Lacs INR This is a good deal or should i negotiate for better addon or discounts.
As Quoted by Party , for the Factory Fitted version,go with Maruti. Some other options are :- Honda Amaze CNG-company fit Volkswagen Ameo - External Ford Ecosport - External ( I don't suggest ) Volkswagen Polo - External Thanks for the A2A
When you talk about cars from international manufacturers sold in India, you need to understand only some of them are manufactured in India. For instance, Honda makes its City and Jazz in India and for Indian markets. These are relatively cheap, while a Civic that is no longer manufactured in India would be quite expensive. In the same way, not all Volkswagen cars are manufactured in India. Among those that are manufactured in large volumes - Polo and Vento, the prices are in the range of $9000-$11000 and you cannot get any new car in the US for that price. Volkswagen sells Polo in UK for upwards of 11k pounds (,New Polo : Volkswagen UK,) that is nearly double of its price in India (,Instant Free New Car Price Quote,). On the other hand, it doesn't manufacture Jetta in India and thus its prices will be significantly high. When you select a car that is not manufactured for India, it gets quite expensive for a variety of reasons: Some or all of the car parts might be imported. That would make it quite expensive. For instance, even if Accord is assembled in India, most of the parts for it is made outside. On the other hand, Honda's other car that is mostly made in & for India - Jazz goes for less than a fourth of its price. The car might not have enough volumes even if manufactured locally. When volumes are low, it increases manufacturing and retail costs dramatically. By looking for a model that is not made for India, you tell the car maker that you are a rich person from whom they would love to make the highest margins. In the US, only entry level buyers buy a Civic while even the middle class go for a Camry or an Accord . Thus, a Civic sold in the US would have lower margins than the one sold in India.
