bmw m5 l Q&A Review

What model of BMW is really the ultimate driving machine of all time?

I have driven many BMW cars from SUV to sedan class. BMW M5 Sedan is the ultimate driving machine of all time. BMW M5 (Sedan): Excitingly and elegantly shaped. More powerful than ever. The new generation of the BMW M5 is a statement of supreme engineering skill and innovative driving intelligence. For hitherto unimagined dimensions of driving dynamics up to the limits. Full of state-of-the-art technologies that make the everyday business routine safer and more comfortable. The innovative all-wheel drive system M xDrive of the powerful all-new BMW M5 with its 600 hp (441 kW) engine turns the driver into the self-assured pilot of a high-performance sports saloon with unbelievable power, precision and agility – pure M driving pleasure on a new level. BMW M5 with M xDrive: Fuel consumption in km/l (combined) 9.5 CO2 emissions in g/km (combined): 241 Consumption data is determined in accordance to the ECE driving cycle, depending on the wheel and tyre sizes selected. The models illustrated include optional equipment.

Mercedes has the SLS and Audi has the R8. Why does BMW not have a competing supercar?

Mercedes-Benz SLS:- 2 doors 6.2 L v8 producing 563bhp; 650Nm 0-60 in 3.7 Audi R8 2 doors 5.2L v10 producing 525bhp; 530Nm 0-60 in 3.7 BMW M5 4 doors for 5 people 4.4L v8 producing 560bhp; 680Nm 0-6 in 4.4 (3.6 during testing) so basically, the M5 is bmw's way of saying "f*ck supercars, i'm going take my family and chase them also..."

Which brand of car is better, Mercedes or BMW?

What I feel is, BMW is more engaging as compare to Mercedes. For me BMW is more fun to drive. Mercedes feels soft and more refined, whereas BMW is aggressive and has that raw feel. BMW wheels designs are just amazing, but things are changing, I am in love with the new E63 ///AMG more than new BMW M5. I never really loved the interior designing of BMW. Mercedes interior always gave me feeling of luxury, style, special.

What are some examples of cars that are great "sleepers", that is, they have great speed and performance but from their looks one wouldn't necessarily expect it?

Some all-time great Q-cars or sleepers, These are cars which were exceptionally fast for their time and unlikely to be identified, thanks to their rarity and an unassuming appearance. ,The Lotus Carlton (or Lotus Omega), produced 1990 - 1992 ,Top Speed 177 mph, 377 hp and 419 lb-ft. 0 - 60 in 5.2 seconds. 0 - 100 - 0 in under 17 seconds. 950 built. Vauxhall/Opel turned to Lotus to develop this super-saloon from an ordinary large car. It used 3.6l twin-turbocharged 24v straight 6, modified by Lotus from the standard Opel 3.0l. Six speed manual was from the contemporary Corvette ZR-1. For a while this was the fastest production 4-door sedan in the world (german performance cars were artificially limited to 155 mph). Likely to be identified only by car enthusiasts, mainly by the wider wheel arches and side skirts compared to the standard car. Always seems to come in black (Edit: ,User-11153860224252675126, let me know that this car only came in Imperial Green, a very dark shade that can appear black in photos). This car generated some controversy in the British press at the time with much talk of a ban, it's a rare sight on the roads today. ,Lotus Carlton review Audi RS2 Avant, produced 1994 - 1995 ,Top Speed 166 mph, 315 hp and 302 lb-ft. 0 - 60 in 4.7 seconds. 0 - 30 in 1.5 seconds. 2891 built. Nowadays Audi is well known for it's fast estate cars or wagons, this is the car that really made people take notice. Co-developed with Porsche, this used the 2.2l 20v 5 cylinder engine also seen in the ur-quattro with the boost turned up by Porsche. 4wd of course, it was famously timed doing 0 - 30 mph in 1.5 seconds making it quicker off the line than the McLaren F1. At the time no one expected an unassuming estate car to be so rapid, the main clue to its identity is the Porsche 911 wheels. ,The original BMW M5 (E28), produced 1985 - 1988 ,Top Speed 153 mph, 286 hp and 251 lb-ft 0 - 60 in 5.9 seconds. 1042 built for Europe. 1340 built for North America. Performance data is for the European version. North America got a somewhat emasculated version with 256 hp to comply with emission regs. A favorite of mine because it looks so damn ordinary. Apart from the tell-tale M badges front and rear, this car looks just like a garden-variety 5-series. It is one of the rarest BMW M-sport cars ever built. It used the 3.5 l straight-six from the M1 supercar and started the tradition of super-saloons by the German car maker. Mercedes-Benz AMG Hammer, produced 1984 - 1987 (?) ,Top Speed 178 mph to 190+, Basic version with the 5.5 l V8: 355 hp and 388 lb-ft. 0 - 60 5.0 seconds. Unknown number built, thought to be around 30. ,1986 AMG Hammer: Inventing the Mercedes Hot Rod Custom-made to order, the legendary AMG Hammer was able to run with the fastest exotics of its day. Depending on the spec, only the ultra low profile tyres gave any clue of the performance contained within, although these cars often seem to have body colored grille and wheels. An optional body kit cuts the drag to 0.25 Cd. The V8 engine could be bored to 6.0, giving 396 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. The fastest, fully specced version cost twice as much as a Ferrari Testarossa with a top speed quoted by AMG as 190+ mph. This is fast for today, imagine it almost 3 decades ago! This has to be the ultimate sleeper car of all time.

Which is the best engine sound car and why?

It all comes down to personal choice as you can see from the answers you got so far. I would go “old style” on that one. Cars such as the rosso 1957 Ferrari 335 S Scaglietti Spider 3.8-liter V12 Or the 330 P4 or the Ferrari 312p Berlinetta The 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa To me, it has to be at least a V12, and yes, it can be a more recent car too. It could be the Vulcan or the 77 above The FXX K Of course, I would consider some V8s too. Specially if they can have an acceleration of 0,-,500km/h in under 4 sec, such as these,: Those things just sound wild. I certainly would not go for cars that “need” a Soundaktor Or any new hybrid and electric vehicles that need to come equipped with built-in “audible noise,” which will sound when the car is traveling under about 19 miles per hour. Or any type of “Engine-sound enhancement” such as the BMW M5 that was noted for their ,fake engine noises,, noises that are designed for the driver, not a pedestrian outside the car. And some other brands that are doing the same. I like it wild and preferable from a V12 aspirated and with the “old” carbs. Just look at the Niki Lauda Brabham BT48 Alfa-Romeo V 12 Have you heard a 1931 Miller V16 Racing Car Engine? For you to have an idea of my choice, look at this Ferrari 365 5.0 L engine noise That is a true “noise maker”. Its roar is just “different”. Today they are just not the same. Although, the fact that you can play music with some newer instant response engines, is kinda cool.

What are the features of the BMW M5?

There are several new features in the updated new BMW M5 The several changes on the outside of BMW M5 is:- The exterior changes for the M5 are mostly focused on the front end, where a new double-bar grille design features alongside a reprofiled bumper with new air intakes. The headlights have also been redesigned, bringing new L-shaped LED tubes and incorporating BMW’s Dynamic Laser Matrix Beam for extra brightness on full beam.At the rear, there’s a new apron and diffuser design, alongside fresh 3D LED tail-lights and a new tailpipe shape. The updated M5 is covered in new black detailing, including on the grille and intake mesh, boot lid spoiler, mirror caps, tailpipes and rear apron. Five new paint finishes and a new 20-inch wheel design also feature. The changes in the inside of BMW M5 is:- The changes to the cabin reflect those in the standard 5 Series and include a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display running the latest, seventh-generation iDrive system. Efforts have been made to improve ergonomics, with two new buttons on the centre console taken from the M8.One allows the driver to switch quickly from Road mode, wherein all the safety systems are operational, to Track mode, which disables all but the collision warning and Evasion Assistant. It even stops the hazard lights from coming on under hard braking. The other button quickly takes you to individual configuration modes for the engine, chassis and standard 8-speed automatic ’box. The new changes on the Engine side is :- Although there were suggestions that more power would be extracted from the M5’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8, there are the same two power train options as before. The standard M5 produces 600hp, while the M5 Competition gets 625hp. Performance is identical, with the M5 Competition able to sprint from 0-100kph in a claimed 3.3sec and onto a top speed of 304kph when the optional M Driver’s Package is specified. The M5 Competition has received chassis revisions, however, in the form of new shock absorbers from the M8 Gran Coupé. These are claimed to improve comfort by reducing body movements over bumps and ruts. The M Compound brakes are unchanged, but new colour options for the calipers are now available.

Apart from the beautiful V6 screams & V8 Howls, why do some people still prefer petrol engines when turbo diesel tech now produces more torque per cc?

Seriously? Turbo diesels produce more power per unit displacement than petrols? I find that highly unlikely. The highest power density I've seen is in the BMW M550d, a tri-turbo 3.0L engine that makes 381HP for a power density of 127HP/L. Honda's S2000 made 123.5HP/L loooong before that, naturally aspirated. Forced induction petrols hold much higher densities. This aside, I'd choose petrol over diesel because of the power delivery (more power at high engined speeds). Diesels just don't rev that high. Also, how about a V10 wail? Check out the BMW M5 E60.

Why are gas caps on either side of cars and not uniformly standard like steering wheels in American cars on the left?

Are they randomly placed on either side? I’ve had a look at the cars I’ve driven this year, and where the fuel filler flap is. Do bear in mind that I’m in the UK, so while the steering wheel is on the wrong side, no manufacturer bothers to switch the position of the fuel filler for the UK market. Audi A8 L - Right Audi R8 - Right Audi RS 3 Sportback - Right BMW M5 - Right BMW X2 - Right Citroen C4 Cactus - Left DS 7 - Right Ford Mondeo - Left Honda Civic - Left Honda Jazz Sport - Left Hyundai i30 N - Left Kia Niro PHEV - Left Kia Picanto X-Line - Left Kia Stinger 2.0T - Left Maserati Levante S - Left Maserati Quattroporte - Left Mazda SkyActiv X - N/A MG ZS - Right Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross - Left Nissan e-NV200 - N/A Nissan LEAF - N/A SEAT Arona - Right Skoda Karoq - Right Subaru XV - Right Suzuki Swift SHVS - Left Vauxhall / Opel Insignia GSi - Right Volkswagen Arteon - Right Volkswagen Polo - Right Volkswagen T-Roc - Right Vokswagen Tiguan Allspace - Right Volvo S90 - Right Volvo XC40 - Right That’s 12 for left and 17 for right, which is even enough to suggest there’s no pattern, so are fundamentally randomly placed. The bottom line is that there’s no real benefit to having the filler on either side. As a very simple (and easily disproved) rule of thumb, those cars designed in the US and mainland Europe (so those that drive on the right) have fillers on the right, while those cars designed in the UK or Japan (where we drive on the left) tend to have their caps on the right. I would assume that’s because you’ll tend to pull up to a pump on that side of the car, being that it’s the side of the road you’re usually on, but such is the international nature of the industry, and the prevalence of multi-lane dual-sided pumps, that these practices balance out and become irrelevant.
