Which type of car offers the superior driving experience, convertibles or targa tops?
Generally speaking, the stiffer a car’s body is, the better. Chopping the roof off a car turns it into a wobbly mess that requires a lot of reinforcements to make it drive-able again. All those reinforcements come with a stiff (pun intended) penalty: WEIGHT. Convertibles are often much heavier than their roofed counterparts, while still nowhere near as stiff. A Targa roof is a relatively light-weight reinforcement thats adds significantly to the stiffness of the vehicle. This is why there a hardly any “full convertible” performance cars, but plenty of “Targa” versions.
