2021 Isuzu D-Max too tame? Fancy a widebody or tipper D-Max? 01

We at WapCar.my hold the 2021 Isuzu D-Max in high regard. It looks light years better than many trucks, has plenty of toys, and carries with it an air of sophistication that was not present in its predecessor. Suffice to say, it has been well-received by the carbuying public.

But, what if someone, - in the highly unlikely event - found the regular D-Max to be too.... pedestrian? Well, we're glad to say that Arctic Trucks and TGS Limited have thought of this very question and have come up with answers to add a but more spice to the 2021 Isuzu D-Max.

Starting with Arctic Trucks' interpretation, called the AT35. Arctic Trucks started by strengthening the chassis, before adding Bilstein performance suspension, a set of matte-black double-spoke wheels, and 35-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tyres.

The D-Max gets a set of blistered wheelarches to give it an even more aggresive profile. A set of extended running boards are also installed to facilitate ease of access due to the raised ride height. Ready for action? You bet.

Inside, the already well-appointed interior gets Arctic Trucks branding emblazoned on the floor mats, headrests, sill covers, and leather upholstery.

TGS Limited also had a go in creating its version of an upgraded Isuzu D-Max, and this one is indeed special. TGS' modifications include giving the D-Max.... a tipper-style conversion.

The tipper assembly combines aluminum with a double-action scissor mechanism for durability, lightness, and maximum stability. Said scissor mechanism is controlled by an electro-hydraulic power pack.

The best bit is that the tipper can be operated from a distance via a wired remote control, meaning you don't need to be standing right next to the tipper to operate it.

TGS also fitted a VB Tech air suspension system to enhance comfort while increasing the truck's gross vehicle weight to 3,500 kg, but still maintaining a 1,000 kg payload. It looks the 'utility' part too, with vinyl flooring, steel wheels, and black plastic bumpers.

Both these bespoke trucks are powered by the RZ4E 1.9-litre, four cylinder turbodiesel engine (164 PS, 360 Nm).

Closer to home, Malaysia's 2021 Isuzu D-Max has a choice of two turbodiesel powertrains. The first is the RZ4E 1.9-litre, four cylinder (150 PS, 350 Nm) that can be paired to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The second is the 4JJ3 3.0-litre, four cylinder (190 PS, 450 Nm) which can only be had with a 6-speed automatic.

Malaysian prices for the Isuzu D-Max range from RM 88,599 to RM 141,938 (SST discounts applied, valid till 31-December 2021).
