A couple of weeks ago, Proton launched the enhanced 2022 Proton Persona. Like the Iriz, the new Persona gets a host of notable improvements, but there’s no crossover-esque variant here.

In this article, we will take a closer look and see how much owners need to pay in terms of maintenance and insurance cost for the 2022 Proton Persona over a 5-year period.

Like other Campro-powered Proton models, the Persona requires its first oil change at the 1,000-km mark, which costs RM 121.08. Items required to be replaced during the first service include the engine oil, engine oil filter, and drain plug gasket.

Subsequently, the Persona requires an oil change at every 10,000-km/6-month interval.

Service costs have increased a fair bit compared to before, as Proton has now included the N95 cabin filter as a replaceable item at every 20,000-km/12-month interval, as well as the inclusion of replacing the radiator coolant at every 30,000-km/18-month interval.

The most expensive service is at the 60,000-km/36-month mark, as that is a major service. Owners are required to replace their spark plugs, engine oil, air filter, and transmission fluid during this service. It costs RM 917.40 to service the Persona CVT at this interval – considerably higher than before, as it now includes replacing the radiator coolant.

Like the Iriz sibling, Proton has also axed the manual variant of the new Persona. That said, the maintenance schedule still covers the manual-equipped variant.

Like the CVT model, the cost to maintain the manual version of the Persona has also increased.

That said, it is worth keeping in mind that Proton has shifted the timing belt replacement to the 110,000-km/66-month mark, which costs RM 633.84 for both the CVT and manual variants of the Persona.

Over a 5-year/100,000-km period, owners of CVT variants of the Persona need to pay RM 3,583 to service their car, while maintaining the manual variant is slightly cheaper, coming in at RM 3,220. It costs RM 532 more than before, due to the inclusion of the radiator coolant replacement and N95 cabin filter.

Keep in mind that these prices do not include the timing belt replacement at the 110,000-km mark and optional items that the service centre offers.

Seeing that the Persona 1.6 Executive and 1.6 Premium variants now wear 16-inch tyres, it is worth noting that prices of this tyre size typically hover around the RM 200 mark. The Standard 1.6 variant's 15-inch tyre prices typically hover around the RM 150 mark.
