Mazda has just dropped a teaser for its upcoming Mazda CX-60, a large two-row SUV destined for Europe and Japan. The new CX-60 will be positioned slightly above the Mazda CX-5.

According to Mazda, the new Mazda CX-60 will be the first of many new models from their Large Product Group. Other models within the Large Product Group include the Mazda CX-70, Mazda CX-80, and Mazda CX-90.

Models categorized under the Large Product Group will be offered with a rear-wheel drive layout (yay!), coupled with a regular combustion six-cylinder engine (market dependent), a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or 48-V mild-hybrid (MHEV).

In the case of the Mazda CX-60, Mazda has confirmed that the PHEV version will get a petrol-electric 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine mated to a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system that does a combined system output of over 300 PS.

That should give the Mazda CX-60 enough firepower to fend off German rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3.

What about Malaysia?

While the Mazda CX-60 is planned for markets like Europe and Japan, Mazda hasn’t ruled out other markets including Malaysia, so there is a possibility of the model finding its way here in the future.

The recently-launch Mazda CX-50, on the other hand, is destined to be a North American market-only model.
